I was going to go boondock at Kofa yesterday, but it’s way too windy and it continues today. So I decided to paint in the van today using a photo I took at Kofa about a month ago when my sister came to visit. It’s beautiful in all directions. I will work on it more tomorrow.

I just got through waxing these two original water color paintings that I mounted on birch cradle board. No need to frame under glass as water will be repelled by the wax. They are so light, they can be hung on the wall with Velcro Command strips! Perfect artwork for RV or van life.

I have not had any acrylic painting supplies with me in my travels, so I ordered a small set of Golden heavy body paints. All I had to paint on is a Clayboard which is very smooth surface. I felt more like I was painting with gouache on that surface. I also am not used to mixing my own desert colors, so that was a challenge for me. This little 5x7 original will go up on my website soon.

Ever used Krylon Fine Art fixatif on a pastel painting? I’ve always been afraid to try it, but I recently created a painting that was created ontop of a previous painting. It looks okay at first glance, but I can see dark vertical lines coming through from the previous painting, so I decided to use it as a guinea pig to test. Not at all happy with what happened to my painting after the fixatif dried. Luckily, I took photo of the painting before I ruined it. The original on top and fixed one below. Notice how it has all these white spots now? It is now in the trash, but I have the photo and can make prints if I want, but still ☹️.

I am not a purest when it comes to the medium I use for painting. I will use whatever medium I can to make the painting look the way I want. I started this little painting (6x6 inch) with a watercolor spontaneous background and was not happy with the outcome using just watercolor, so I finished it with pastel pencils and am happy with it now.

Watercolor, black ink, pastel pencil on 6x6 inch cold press paper.
