It's Throwback Thursday from The Quinter Historical Society. This picture takes us back quite a ways. This picture is Main Street, looking north. It's easy to see the present "Way out Wezt" building on the NW corner of 4th and Main, complete with an outside staircase and wrap around windows. North of that building is the current Historical Society Building and The "Clothes Like New" Building. Of interest is the "Racket Store" on the far left. An internet search as to the meaning of this term revealed that this is another term for a general store. The term apparently was used in North Carolina. As many earlier settlers were from southern Virginia, perhaps they brought the idea of a "Racket Store" to Quinter. The last mention of the "Racket Store: in Quinter was in 1916, when it was being converted to a short order cafe. What can you add to this picture? Please leave us a comments, and feel free to share this post.

It's Throwback Thursday from The Quinter Historical Society! The Wayback Machine has taken us back to January 1957. Quinter Schools now has a lunch room and a hot lunch program. Meals are 25 cents for grade schoolers, and thirty cents for high school students and adults. High school students desiring a hot lunch walked to the grade school for their meal. What are your memories of the school cafeteria? Please leave us your comments, and feel free to share this post.
