Meet the Artist: Christopher Evans

Christopher Evans is a self-taught artist. His work is inspired by life itself, whether it is the music from his childhood or the neighborhoods in which he grew up in. Being born and raised in Apex, North Carolina, has allowed him to incorporate a piece of home, the people, its culture, and those experiences within his work.

Meet the Artist: Renee Neptune

Renee Neptune is a multidisciplinary artist and the mind behind Safaail — an undefinable creative house blending fashion, art, and storytelling. Based in North Carolina, their work turns fashion pieces, canvas, and culture into raw, intentional artifacts.

Known for pushing boundaries and creating without rules, Neptune builds visions that speak loud without saying much — mysterious, nostalgic, and impossible to box in.

Meet the Artist: Shawn Etheridge

Shawn Etheridge is a visual artist based in Raleigh, NC. A native of Elizabeth City, North Carolina, Shawn has been creating art since childhood. He began his love of the arts singing, writing poetry, and trying to “out-draw” his nephew when they were children. Starting out using markers and colored pencil, he was introduced to painting with acrylics by his 8th grade art teacher.

It was also around this time that he was exposed to graffiti writing by a childhood friend, which had a profound impact on his style by fostering a love of color and the preference of markers over brushes. Attending North Carolina Central University from 1987 to graduation in 1993, he majored in Public Administration while continuing to nurture his craft as a part time art student. Although this was not a major course of study, he found a “second home” in the Fine Arts Department.

Meet the Artist: JP Powell

Raised in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio, and enriched by my travels across the globe, my artistic journey has been a tapestry woven with diverse cultural influences and historical contexts. Each experience has broadened my understanding of art's potential to resonate on personal and communal levels.

Settling in Raleigh, North Carolina, I found a vibrant community that invigorates my work and fosters deeper connections with art lovers. This dynamic environment has provided numerous opportunities to engage with extraordinary partners and contribute to the enhancement of public spaces through art.
