Last posting from Scotland: The Scottish Colourists!

From about 1900 until 1930, the vibrant, exuberant work of the four Scottish artists known as the Colourists brought a breath of fresh air to Scottish art.

Their vigorously painted canvases were a celebration of life, full of colour and light. Today, because their pictures are tremendously popular it is difficult to imagine why people found their work so shocking. ‘Too bright, too modern, too French’ were the common criticisms levelled at their art.

This was such a wonderful trip featuring hikes, whisky distilleries, castles, sheep & coos, good weather (!), great food, beautiful islands, museums, lovely scenery, locals, and a patient driving partner.

I’ll be back TOMORROW and opening at 11am.

A few highlights from the Kelvingrove Art Museum in Glasgow.

The Glasgow Boys were the most significant group of artists in Britain at the end of the 19th century. In the 1890s their work was widely admired in Europe and America, where they were regularly invited to exhibit. They put Glasgow on the cultural map and encouraged following generations of Scottish artists to have confidence in their own abilities and to be open to new developments in art.

The Boys, as they preferred to be called, were a loose-knit group of about 20 artists, linked by friendships and, in most cases, a connection with Glasgow, where they trained, lived or shared studios.

They developed a distinctive style and were drawn to similar subjects, beginning with rural people painted out of doors in a matter-of-fact way. Later, the more fashionable life of the city attracted them. Finally, colour, texture and pattern came to dominate their work.

(And be sure to zoom in on the hanging mask faces…some of them had lights inside that changed color…pretty funny 😆)

ART, etc. is OPEN FOR BIZ!

What a whirlwind the past two weeks have been! Between cleaning, painting, moving, painting, lifting, more painting, hanging and finally arranging…here we are! And let me tell you: I have learned so much about how to hang 2D art on old brick walls…🥴

We are still a “work in progress” with new track lights to install, signage and yes, more painting.
Drop by to see our new space & hours: Wed-Sat, 10-4.

(You must ask to see our new bathroom. I think if there was an award for the best public restroom we would definitely win 😃!!!)

Wow. Sorry it’s been so long since I posted.
All is great and moving forward! I will be the first to admit that MOVING SUCKS! During my current too-numerous-to-count car loads, I kept getting visions of my college, NYC, NH, FL, VT (and probably others I’m purposefully forgetting) moves. I shouldn’t complain; this one is only a two minute walk!!! Its the packing that’s awful.
Anyway, all actually good and this move will be great!
SOOOO much love sent to John, Wayne & Allison for moving in the rain and unpacking; to Randolph’s Harmony Electric for new electrical with more to come.
Our Gallery Artists have moved in, now we just need to unpack and hang all. Stay tuned, more to come for our soft open May 1st!!

Moving day #1: large, bulky and damn heavy furniture.
(Also wrapping, packing and overall schlepping)

Huge shoutouts of thanks to Wayne and his truck 😃, John: lifter, painter and organizer extraordinaire ❤️, and Allison: bubblewrap queen and packer of all things ceramic!!!
Couldn’t have done this move without you all!!
Progress, one day at a time…

Progress is happening!!
Here’s a quick update about our new space at 27 N Main Street in Randolph:
New ceiling tiles and a light fixture going into the new bathroom (!). (Notice the original tin ceiling above).
The entire floor is getting a (much needed) fresh coat of paint. Boxes of track lights await hanging, more painting of walls (thanks John ❤️), and a neat pile of materials ready for use.
Can’t wait to share all of this with you very soon! Still hoping for a soft open on May 1…stay tuned!!

Drum roll please!
Yes, the rumors are true (unless you are part of the Artemis II crew and have been out of touch for a few days…😉). WE ARE MOVING!!!
An amazing opportunity happened and I decided to go for it. I send tremendous thanks to everyone who helped make this happen ❤️.
Large space with frontage on Main Street. Brick walls. Original tin ceilings. Perfect for beautiful art created by Vermonters.
Dates: we will be open Wed-Saturday’s 10-2p until April 18. Move the following weeks and plan to re-open May 1st!
A grand ReOpening with music, libation, food and two new Gallery Artists is scheduled for June 5. More details will be posted in May.
Process photos will come your way soon in between cleaning, painting, building and moving!!
