The TCGHS works hard to preserve and share Tehama County’s rich history before it fades away and is lost forever. Several Society members serve as volunteers at the Red Bluff branch of the Tehama County Library. They prepare research databases, catalog photographs and documents, assist the public with genealogical and historical research projects, and help answer inquiries to the Society. Addition

ally, the Society is active in finding and reprinting books about local history that are long out of print but still significant. None of this is possible without the enthusiastic support from members of the community who believe in the value of history. The TCGHS is a membership society relying solely on dues to support its mission. Join or renew today to support and promote TCGHS’s historical stewardship of Tehama County’s unique sense of place—past, present, and future.

The TCG&HS is grateful for the donation of a copy of a photo of Senator John F. Kennedy giving a speech to the people of Red Bluff, Ca. In this photo, Senator Kennedy is standing next to then Governor of California, Pat Brown. The speech was given from the back of a train on September 8, 1960. The photo was taken by local photographer and camera shop owner Ralph Ehorn and was donated by his wife, Joanne Ehorn.
Do you remember this event? And what do you remember about it?

Had to share this for our friends at the Whitt Hall Fire House Museum (835 Cedar St, Red Bluff). They made the cover of “Tehama - The Magazine”! This is a wonderful local museum that you really must check out this summer - honestly it’s a great place to bring the kids to see old fire trucks. To schedule a visit , please call (530) 527-1126. Thank you ‘

Sharing a copy of a photo that was donated to the Tehama County Genealogical & Historical Society. This is the famous Red Bluff native Chester "Chet" Derby taking a not so typical flight over the Sacramento River 🫣. Chet was a commercial pilot for over 60 years and helped hundreds of new pilots earn their wings. He was well known for his awesome acrobatic feats. I am including the "Find A Grave" memorial here: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/14729484/chester_edwin-derby. Mr. Derby was quite a man!

Sharing an undated copy of a photo that was donated to the Tehama County Genealogical & Historical Society of Mel & Mattie's Colony Grill; Hwy 99, Dairyville, California. Do you remember this place? It seems like it would have been a nice place to stop for a cold drink or ice cream on a hot Tehama County summer day!
