All our classes aim at improving our student’s abilities to plan, make decisions and think resourcefully through guided instructions that also teach patience and follow through, by expression through art. Students gain experience that will assist their regular academic endeavors and help tremendously with those challenging special homework projects. Creativity improves problem solving abilities, s
patial thinking and math! My name is Michelle Laxalt, and I am a full-time undergraduate student attending the University of Nevada, Reno. I’m working toward receiving my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, and I’m dual-minoring in Art History and Spanish. I plan on becoming an art teacher after I attend graduate school. I love working with children, and strongly believe that childhood learning should be fun and filled with diverse and interactive activities, and should take place outside of the classroom. I believe everyone is an artist in their own individual ways. Art has enriched my life, and the inspiration I have found in art is something I absolutely love to share with children! Alisha Funkhouser - My name is Alisha Funkhouser and I am a Reno native, born and raised! My specialties in art are photography and printmaking; however, I love experimenting with every art medium available and am always looking for new techniques to try out. I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a concentration in Photography and a minor in Museum Studies & Gallery Practices from the University of Nevada, Reno in the spring of 2011. Art has played an immense roll throughout my life, helping me to continually grow and develop both on a personal and intellectual level. I absolutely love working with children and fostering that same growth and development through art making. It brings me great joy to see the confidence, creativity and problem solving skills that art brings out in others, especially children. In addition to teaching at Kids Doing Art, I teach digital photography classes at UNR and work as a freelance photographer around the Reno/Sparks area covering different events and concerts. I also do a lot of work with The Holland Project, a local all-ages arts and culture initiative. Kellie Lee - Owner of Drawn2Imagine, Art Academy for Kids & Teens. Kellie is a Reno native who found that our area was in great need of an art studio just for children. A place for them to express their curiosity and individuality through art. Children in her own life inspired her to open Kids-N-Art in 2010 and after being mobile for two years, she decided to open a permanent location, now Drawn2Imagine. Since then she has discovered that this is truly her calling in life and she finds so much joy in watching our student learn, grow and create every day! Amy Aramanda - My name is Amy Aramanda and I’ve been doing arts and crafts my whole life. I am so grateful that my childhood was filled with so much art and I feel I am better for it that I want to share that with other children. I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts with a focus in photography and a minor in Art History in the spring of 2012. Although I focused on photography in school I love working with all mediums, one of my favorites being paper mache. In addition to teaching at Kids-N-Art I’m a working artist. I’ve been a self-employed face painter since I was eleven and have recently been commissioned to paint Colin Kaepernick portraits on footballs. I’ve also recently started substitute teaching for the Washoe County School District. Hannah Redding - Is a full-time undergraduate at UNR and TMCC. She has worked with Kellie several times through out the first two years Kellie was mobile. She is an amazing artist, and enjoys the arts very much. She plans to work with kids in her future and is working on a degree in Speech Pathology. Hannah is very good with children and is one of 6 kids in her family. Not to mention she is Kellie's little sister.
