From the Archives:

Lets look at historical sports teams from the town of Rhinebeck!

These photos feature:
The Rhinebeck high school tennis club (top left, 1903),
four tennis players (top right, 1922), the county champions: Rhinebeck girl's basketball team (middle, unknown year), the men's high school basketball team (bottom left, 1910), and the Rhinebeck Basketball Athletic Club (bottom right, 1927).

Also featured is a Combined Training Association medal for Equestrian sports. Combined training includes dressage, cross-country, and show jumping (1983).

From the Archives:

As we head into the cold winter months, lets take a look at the popular winter sport of Ice Boating!

Since the winters of the early 1800s, sailors would swap their traditional sailboats for ice boats; which had large blades to travel across the ice like skates. These boats were ideal for traveling when the Hudson river froze over, and could reach speeds up to 75mph!

The top photo showcases 'The Vixen' (left), owned by the Roosevelt family, and 'The Rip Van Winkle' (right), owned by the Aldrich family.
