Emily Furr x Eden Airlines will be participating in SPRING/BREAK NYC 2022, Sept 8-12🦩
We will be exhibiting an immersive art experience created by Emily Furr and curated by Ariel Arakas.
The scene is a sailing camp in the summer, a teenage Emily has an unrequited crush on her sailing instructor. While out on the water running drills she is instructed to flip the hull of her dinghy to practice the skill of righting it. Faced with a difficult task and a desire to impress, the anxiety and pubescent frustration overwhelms her. Rather than face humiliation in the eyes of her crush, she instead leaps in to the water crying, and swims to shore with tears streaking her cheeks. The most thrilling moment in this coming of age tale is when the instructor performs his routine medical assessment after reuniting on the shore. Having just escaped a watery death, saved retroactively by her brave Jackson, the artist undergoes a rebirth.
For her installation the artist intends to capture not necessarily the narrative of this story, but the sensory and emotional experience of love, metamorphosis, and the return to nature. Her large scale relief paintings will circumscribe the room, forming an immersive diorama reminiscent of the Trevi Fountain. The central figure will be the artist herself. The themes of water and undulating drama will baptize the viewer in a wave of vibrant color.
