Virago Alley, the non-profit behind the Richmond Ren Faire, brings history to life on the stunning grounds of Agecroft Hall highlighting powerful figures from ancient civilizations through the 17th century. This event is rooted in a deeper purpose: reclaiming space in history for those whose stories have often been overlooked, simplified, or erased. These figures share a common thread in the roles and expectations placed upon them reflecting resilience, leadership, and resistance to limitation.

Virago Alley seeks to reclaim the word “virago,” once used to scorn women of strength, to invite others to feel empowered in spite of the expectations that society has placed on them. This event is not just a tribute, but a declaration of identity to honor viragos past and inspire those yet to come.

This immersive event features a mix of performances, storytelling, crafting activities, and an open-air artisan market. Enjoy local vendors, historically inspired fare, and a variety of family-friendly activities in a setting that perfectly blends past and present.

This Friday, May 15th at 5pm, enjoy a royally entertaining time at Agecroft Hall & Gardens as the Richmond Renaissance Dancers present "The Royal Revels of Queen Elizabeth and Her Court!"

The year is 1601, and Queen Elizabeth I and her courtiers have arrived at Agecroft Hall in Lancashire, England for the Queen’s Royal Progress.

This Renaissance “romp” takes a humorous look at world events, as costumed members of the Richmond Renaissance Dancers portray the Queen and her courtiers and demonstrate period dances.

Weather permitting, this event will take place outdoors in the Outer Courtyard of Agecroft Hall. Gates will open at 4:30pm.

This is a rain-or-shine event. In the case of inclement weather, the event will be moved indoors.

Have you seen the Agecroft Centennial Art Show? Featuring the work of 35 local artists, it will be on display at Agecroft Hall & Gardens through Sunday, May 10th. (This post features just a sampling of the art that's included!)

Put together by Libby Girard, our Curator of Collections, the show commemorates 100 years of Agecroft Hall in Virginia. The artists were inspired by everything from the historic home's architecture and gardens to the era of the 1920s and noteworthy public figures.

Artwork is on view in two separate spaces in Agecroft Hall -- the sunroom/exhibit room, whose exterior entrance is located off our Fragrance Garden, and the Williams Room, located near the lobby of the Visitor Center.

Much of the art on display is for sale by the artist, and this is notated by the presence of a green dot. Interested in purchasing a piece of art? Our front desk staff can provide you with the artist's contact information and pricing details. Please note that all sales must be coordinated directly between the artist and the buyer.

Access to the art show is included with your garden admission ticket.

On occasion, generally due to museum programming or a rental of the space, access to the art in the Williams Room may not be available when you visit. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Agecroft Hall & Gardens is open from 12-5pm, Tuesday-Sunday. We hope you'll stop by and view the work of these incredible artists before the show closes on May 10th!
