The guest for episode 13 of Discovering Central Kentucky Music with Randy Westbrook is Dr. Kevin Holm-Hudson! Kevin has been a professor of music theory and composition at the University of Kentucky since 2000. In addition to his background in classical music, he specializes in popular music and progressive rock studies and has incorporated those interests into his teaching. Progressive rock bands utilize instrumental and compositional techniques commonly associated with jazz and classical music often in a conceptual framework. Examples of progressive rock bands include King Crimson, Jethro Tull, ELP, Pink Floyd, Dream Theater, Rush, Yes, Genesis, and Haken. Dr. Holm-Hudson is the author of the textbook Music Theory Remixed (Oxford University Press) and Genesis and the Lamb Lies Down on Broadway (Ashgate), and the editor of the collection Progressive Rock Reconsidered (Routledge). He is also an active songwriter and performer, both as a solo artist and with his band Kevin Holm-Hudson & The Adjuncts. He played an original song entitled "Last of the Local Legends" near the end of the episode.

The Richmond Area Arts Council will be offering another block of five line dance classes starting on October 19! Jonathan Tevis is the instructor. Tuition is only $50 for five classes. Classes will take place on Mondays from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at the Richmond Area Arts Center with the exception of one Thursday night class on Oct. 29. Registration is available at www.artsinrichmond.org under "classes."

I just walked around upstairs at the Richmond Area Arts Center. It looks fantastic! If you're into quilts in any way, you won't want to miss this show.

The Richmond Area Arts Council will host A Celebration of Stitches
Quilt Show & Art Exhibit this Saturday, October 17, 2026 from 11:00 am - 4:00 pm at RAAC on Water Street in Richmond.
Admission: $5
Tami Jones of Hometown Quilt Company has generously donated a quilt for our raffle. Raffle tickets are $5 or five tickets for $20 at the door. Drawing will take place at 4:00 pm on the day of the Quilt Show.

The guests for episode 12 of Discovering Central Kentucky Music with Randy Westbrook are Katherine Rhodus and Lee Anne Browder from the Richmond Area Arts Council! Katherine has served as the chair of the arts council board since 2022, and Lee Anne is the the Arts Education Coordinator/Administrative Assistant for the organization. We talked about programs and events that RAAC sponsors including the upcoming 35th annual Arts Gala coming up on Oct. 4. I played a solo piano version of a track from my One Week in October CD entitled "Ghost of a Summer Solstice" near the end of the episode.
