Reminder! 🎸 Limited seats are available for our upcoming Kidz@122 program, Rock, Rosetta, Rock!, so be sure to register your youth today.

This interactive program introduces young people to the life and musical legacy of Sister Rosetta Tharpe, often called the “Godmother of Rock and Roll,” whose influence helped shape gospel, blues, and early rock music long before many artists who later became household names.

Youth will enjoy storytelling, music, creativity, and hands-on activities led by acclaimed performer and Richmond arts leader Désirée Roots, who will guide participants through an engaging exploration of Sister Rosetta Tharpe’s legacy through storytelling and performance.

Did you know? During the height of her career, Sister Rosetta Tharpe called Richmond home for nearly a decade after purchasing a house on Barton Avenue in 1947. While living in Richmond, she performed at The Mosque, now known as the Altria Theater, and worked with local singers and musicians, helping further shape a sound that would influence generations to come.
