New Look At Hunt Arena, October 1982

Hockey fans will see a new look at Hunt Arena this fall when they attend the first game on November 16 [Alumni game] at the arena. The interior has been painted a bright red and white as was the outside southwest corner.

Photo shows a group of painters finishing the "Go Falcons" wording after painting "University of Wisconsin-River Falls" on the other corner.

Out Goes Main St. Traffic Island; Stop Signs Changed, October 1982

A city employee (top photo) is pictured airhammering out the "island" at the intersection of North Main and Division in front of Jerry's.

The island had become a controversial conversation piece since it was put up over a year ago. (One caller Friday morning suggested we come out and take a picture of "your tax dollars at work").

Along with the island's removal, the city has changed the signs at the intersection which motorists should note. Traffic moving north on Main will not have to stop. However, traffic traveling west on Division approaching North Main is now required to stop (bottom photo).

Motorists coming into River Falls from the north on Main are also reminded that vehicles traveling north are not required to stop nor yield as has been the case...if turning left onto Division at the intersection (in front of Jerry's) you must yield to oncoming traffic.

New Front On Old Red & White, October 1982

The former Red and White store front has a new look -- Vision Center and the King's Closet occupy the front portion of the recently remodeled building. An Army recruiting office has opened on one of the side shops. Two more side shops are available for rent. The owners of the building are Bob Colburn and DeWayne Benedict.

Wunrow Honored For Hunter Safety Here, October 1982

Pierce County game warden Tom Bokelman, right, is pictured presenting a special plaque to River Falls High School athletic director Ron Wunrow from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

The plaque recognized the fact that since 1969, Wunrow has headed up the hunters' safety classes in River Falls, and since that time, over 750 students have gone through the class.
