The Railroad Museum of Long Island at Riverhead and Greenport will be CLOSED on Sunday, October 12, 2025!

In an abundance of caution and in consultation with the National Weather Service and local Emergency Management it is in everyone’s best interest to stay home and safe during the forecast Nor’easter on Sunday.

The storm will approach Eastern Long Island by early Sunday afternoon and conditions will deteriorate quickly with heavy rain, high winds, possibly gusting to 60 miles per hour, and the threat of coastal flooding. With leaves on trees, wet and windy conditions can cause heavy tree branches and entire trees to break, drop or topple onto roadways. Flooding of roadways can cause unsafe conditions with eventual road closures.

To ensure the safety of our members and volunteers and the safety of our visitors – we will not open Sunday morning. Please stay safe and consider visiting Riverhead RMLI on a Saturday between October 18 and December 27, 2025.

Greenport RMLI will not host the Mudflats Concert in the Boxcar on Sunday. The Concert has been rescheduled to Sunday, October 19 at 2:00 PM. Please consider joining us for an afternoon of outstanding American Roots Music next weekend.

We don't want to leave out a special guest appearance - mini-event for September! At our Riverhead Museum site on Saturday and Sunday, September 27 and 28, the "Sunrise Hi-Railers" O-Gauge Modular Train Club will be showing under the Big Top! Please stop by and see the members operating their O Scale trains for you!

As the weather cools and our days shorten, it is some of the best time to experience Eastern Long Island. Plan to visit your Museums at Riverhead and Greenport and enjoy the Autumn air.

Enjoy a fresh air "Concert in the Boxcar" on Sunday, September 21 at 2:00 PM at Greenport, 440 - 4th Street. Greenport's own Bard, Vincent Quartroche will entertain with poetry, music and the spoken word. (If it does rain, we will move inside the Museum.) FREE and open to all!

You are invited to visit with us at the Southampton Cultural Center, 25 Pond Lane, Southampton NY this weekend. RMLI Members will be sharing their trains with the community. This will be our last Outreach for 2025, as our Riverhead RMLI will open at 10 AM on Saturday morning, April 5th.
