Riverside Historical Museum

Riverside Historical Museum The Riverside Historical Museum is located in the East Well House next to the historic Water Tower, just steps away from the Riverside Metra train station.

The Museum is managed and operated by the seven-member volunteer Riverside Historical Commission. The museum contains an archive of approximately 16,000 documents and artifacts that are primarily dedicated to preserving the rich history of Riverside. Archival materials include territorial plats, maps, manuscripts, architectural drawings, records of Village management and civic organizations, Histo

ric Structure Survey, photographic records, books, audiovisual tapes and transcriptions, and artifacts. It houses nationally significant artifacts relating to Riverside, Frederick Law Olmsted, and to the many noteworthy architects who have built structures in Riverside.

The Museum is now showing  photos from the Riverside 1896 Book.  We are open Saturday from 10 AM to 2 PM.

Our 2022 Calendar, celebrating Frederick Law Olmsted's 200th Birthday is now available at the Museum, the Library, and Riverside Foods. The price is $20, and includes a copy of Olmsted's Preliminary Report to the Riverside Improvement Company.

We have about 60 structures in
Riverside that have been given Local Landmark Status by the Village Preservation Commission. Each has an oval bronze plaque imbedded in the front sidewalk, noting their Landmark number. Pamphlets, with a map and a listing of the Landmarked Structures are available for purchase at the Village Office. Here are some of the pages from the pamphlet.

The Museum reopened today, July 10th. Hours are Saturdays from 10 AM to 2PM.

On October 31st, the Riverside Historical Museum will start operating a "Help Desk". We will have a Commissioner at the Museum every Saturday, from 10 AM to 2 PM, to answer calls, check voice mails and e-mails. We will look up information on homes, people, and events, etc. for you, and make copies that we can e-mail, or for your pick-up at the Museum.

Sorry, but with the Museum's limited space, we cannot allow Patrons in the building at this time.
