At this weekend’s parade and the workshops leading up to it, we were missing our friend and Arts Commissioner Charlene Graves. It was ALS that took her from us last year, and we appreciate this effort by community leaders to raise awareness and improve and extend lives. ❤️

City Council recognized May as ALS Awareness Month with a proclamation to the ALS Association during its Monday, May 4, meeting.

Roanoke is raising awareness of this progressive disease that impacts the nervous and muscular systems. The City has improved accessibility for residents by making all on-street parking free for up to eight hours with a handicap placard, adding a ramp to the Church Avenue entrance to the municipal building and ADA-accessible entry points to the Roanoke River and improving sidewalk infrastructure across the Roanoke.
