This week has overflowed with joy and celebration in the Horizon Program!

On Tuesday, we inducted eleven Horizon students into Pinnacle Honor Society!

Pinnacle, a national honor society, recognizes the incredible dedication and tenacity of non-traditional-aged students seeking a four-year degree. Hollins University's Pinnacle chapter strives to honor our Horizon students!

Horizon students approach the mountains of their lives with grace, presenting themselves as formidable forces against those barriers which would keep them from success. They reach every pinnacle with tremendous courage and love!

Congratulations, new Pinnacle members! We celebrate you, again and again!

Congratulations to our Horizon students who received honors and awards for the 20219-2020 academic year!

The Horizon Program is incredibly proud of our Horizon students' immeasurable accomplishments inside and beyond the classroom!

On Tuesday, the Hollins University community celebrated what would have been the spring semester honors convocation with the announcement of this year's Honors and Awards. The ceremony, usuall taking place during the last full-week of spring classes, recognizes the Hollins community's numerous achievements.

Awards and honors announced at honors convocation include accomplishments such as Dean's List, departmental honors, honors societies, and faculty awards.

[Good morning!

For our Hollins students who do not know me, my name is Victoria Trumbo. I am the Interim Director of Student Engagement Programs here at Hollins, which means I interact directly with our Horizon students, Commuter students, First-generation and Limited-Income (FLI) students, and, really, anyone who just wants to chat.

I wanted to talk to you today about how that is not changing. As far as my job is concerned, no matter how far apart we are, I am still here for you, looking to engage in any we can right now.

All of our scheduled programs are, hopefully, going digital. We are still in the works about that, and I will be in touch with you as to what that entails. So, keep an eye out and enjoy interacting with our social media pages. And let me know if you have any questions. I am always available via email.

As Hollins' J-Term (January short-term) winds down, the Horizon Program is thrilled to welcome our students back to campus!

Horizon students spent the month enjoying interactive classes on campus, interning with phenomenal businesses, adventuring far and wide, and constantly learning! Our students bring unique and wonderful perspectives to all that they do and to every place they go.

The Horizon Program is honored the these phenomenal students call our program home! We prepare with excitement for the spring semester and cannot wait for all that awaits!

During the Honors Convocation we were overjoyed to celebrate with April Arnold and Paige Craft as they were awarded the Evelyn Bradshaw Award!

April and Paige were recognized for their love and hard-work along with many other Horizon students honored through departmental awards and various exciting acknowledgements.

Congratulations, friends! We are so proud of you and thrilled to continue celebrating all of the ways in which you are amazing!

The Horizon Program is so excited for tomorrow's Honors Convocation! A lovely recognition of the our students' hard work and dedication, Honors Convocation is a wonderful time to reflect on the academic year.

We are thrilled to honor our current Horizon students, especially our graduating seniors! The convocation will include a celebration of our inducted Pinnacle members and the recipient(s) of the Horizon Program's annual Evelyn Bradshaw Award.

On Thursday, the Horizon Program enjoyed a lovely induction ceremony for Hollins' chapter of Pinnacle National Honor Society for Non-Traditional Students!

We welcomed eight students into the honors society with certificates of recognition, delicious cake, and tremendously kind words by Mary Ellen Apgar. Congratulations to these phenomenal students!

We are so excited to celebrate our annual induction ceremony for the Pinnacle National Honors Society for Non-Traditional Students!

On Thursday, April 25, we will induct eight Horizon students into this honor society that aims at honoring the tenacious perseverance of non-traditional students and their pursuit of education.

These students are amazing, and we are thrilled to celebrate all of their incredible achievements!

Looking to enjoy some beautiful art during this beautiful weather? Come by Hollins' Eleanor D. Wilson Museum in the Richard Wetherill Visual Arts Center on campus to experience an art exhibit by Diane Edison, Hollins' 2019 Frances Niederer Artist-in-Residence!

Established by an anonymous donor in 1997, the endowed Frances Niederer Artist-in-Residence program allows the university to bring a nationally recognized artist to campus each academic year. In residence during the spring semester, the visiting artist creates work in a campus studio and teaches an art seminar open to all students. The exhibit runs through April 28.

The museum is free to both Hollins community members and the general public. Hours are Tuesday through Sunday from noon-5 pm, with extended evening hours on Thursday until 8 pm.

Please join the Hollins in enjoying 'The Wolves' by Sarah DeLappe, a Hollins Main Stage Theatre production directed by Susanna Young and Hayley Philippart. Showings are April 17 - 20 at 7:30pm and April 21 at 2pm. Admission is $10 for adults and free to current Hollins students, faculty, and staff.

In what appears to be the most-produced play in the country for the 2018-19 season, playwright Sarah DeLappe carries us into the minds and souls of nine teenage girls, presenting fully-rounded characters with intelligence, humor, and depth...a refreshingly honest view of a population that is too often stereotyped in modern entertainment.

Throughout 'The Wolves,' a girls indoor soccer team warms up. From the safety of their suburban stretch circle, the team navigates big questions and wages tiny battles with all the vim and vigor of a pack of female adolescent warriors. A portrait of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for nine American girls who just want to score some goals. As life unfolds, they dig deeper and begin to recognize the complexities of events, large and small, that change their lives.

Join us tomorrow for a presentation by Suzanne Dorsey, the executive director of the Harry R. Hughes Center for Agro-Ecology at the University of Maryland, College Park. She will be the plenary speaker for the Sixty-Second Annual Science Seminar.

Dorsey received her Ph.D. from Stony Brook University – SUNY, where she conducted research on fish recruitment patterns in coral reefs. She became the executive director of the Bald Head Island Conservancy. Dorsey was at the helm of the conservancy for 10 years before taking the position at the Harry R. Hughes Center for Agro-Ecology.

She and her colleagues work with interested partners in the region to protect the water quality of the Chesapeake Bay region. Sponsored by The Secular Society Visitor Program.

Come by Babcock Auditorium in Dana Science Building tomorrow, March 14, at 7:30pm. Admission is free.
