George Westinghouse made his fortune in Pittsburgh, founding Westinghouse Electric in 1886 after inventing the railway air brake.

His push for alternating current, developed with Tesla, beat out Edison's direct current and still powers the world today.

It happened 80 years ago in Rochester. The Sons of Italy Eagle (Aquila) Lodge No. 1070 had a Victory Banquet honoring member Veterans of World War II at the American Legion Home in Rochester, Sunday, May 26, 1946. This photo is on display at the Rochester Area Heritage Society.
