The Door Butler doorstop

The Door Butler doorstop The word is getting out about The Door Butler doorstop and The Bed Butler, helping industries to work more safely and efficiently.

The name of my company is DJMCW, LLC and the names of my products are The Door Butler doorstop™ and The Bed Butler pillow strap alternative. I have worked 25 years within the Resort / Hospitality industry in progressive Management positions. It was during this time that I discovered the need for a doorstop that didn't require hotel employees to bend over to place or retrieve and one that didn't ca

use so much damage to the doors and floors themselves. I wanted a doorstop that was easily portable, something that was small enough and light enough that it would fit in a pocket when not in use and something that was versatile enough to work on any hotel guest room door or flooring surface. I also realized the need for something that would allow an employee to easily and obviously announce themselves before entering a guest room. With time I have found that The Door Butler doorstop™ is popular with employees of Housekeeping, Bell Services, Room Service, Engineering and Security departments. Main Advantages of The Door Butler:

• No bending required while deploying or retrieving.
• Average back injury related workers compensation claim ~$26,000.00
• No damage to doors or floors.
• A single, unfinished, fire rated door ~$600.00
• Allows employee to announce themselves (and be heard) before entering room.
• Priceless
• Cost comparison of product to potential product benefits. Other advantages:
• Keeps your employees hands away from the dangerous pinch points of heavy doors.
• The Door Butler is very light weight (less than 6oz) but very durable.
• It works on all dry floor surfaces (carpet, tile, wood, marble...).
• It is less "unsightly" than a rag or a pile of hotel terry placed in front of the door.
• It will fit in an employee's pocket when not in use.
• Employees like it, so they use it. The Bed Butler pillow strap alternative

I created The Bed Butler as an upgrade to your upright mobile sleepers and after finding that the available replacement straps only replicated and perpetuated the problems that the original straps created:
· Buckles and straps that break way too easily
· Not enough support so that the sheets would come un-tucked while in storage or sitting in the hallways
· The bed needing to be made twice between uses
· Embarrassing looking roll-a ways sitting in the hallways or delivered to the room
· Dangerous trip hazards caused by dangling straps

With The Bed Butler:

· There are no breakable parts
· There is both horizontal and vertical support
o Keeps beds made neatly while sitting in the hallways and in storage
o Does not fold the pillow in half, it instead creates a cradle for the pillow
· Straps “snap” neatly out of the way while in use, causing no trip hazards
· The Bed Butler will last the life of the bed

The Anatomy of a Perfect Hotel Doorstop

If you've ever watched a housekeeper prop open a guest room door with a folded towel, a deadbolt latch, or a flimsy rubber wedge that kicks out the moment they walk away from the door — you already know the problem. Hotel doorstops are one of those small supplies that nobody thinks about until they fail. And when they fail, they fail constantly.

After years of working with housekeeping team and selling to hotels, we've learned that most hotels are using the wrong doorstop for the job. Here's what actually matters when you're choosing one for a your property.

It Has to Hold on Every Surface
Guest room floors are not all the same. In a single property, you might have tile in the bathroom, hardwood or laminate in the main room, marble in a suite, and low-pile carpet in the entryway. A doorstop that works on tile may slide right off marble. One that grips carpet may skate across hardwood.

A good resort / hotel doorstop needs to work on all of these surfaces without adjustment. The mechanism that makes this possible is “compression-to-friction ratio” — as the door pushes down on the stop, the grip increases rather than decreasing. That's the opposite of how a standard rubber wedge behaves, which is why most wedge type doorstops kick out under the load.

It Has to Hold Heavy Doors
Hotel fire doors are heavy — often 60 to 80 pounds or more. They're designed to close on their own, which means they're constantly working against whatever is holding them open. The typical lightweight doorstop simply isn't engineered for this kind of sustained pressure.

When evaluating a doorstop for hotel use, look for one with a great core. A recycled polypropylene pellet fill, for example, provides the mass needed to anchor the stop without making it awkward to carry or store.

It Can't Damage the Floor or the Door
This one matters more than most purchasing managers realize. A doorstop that scratches hardwood floors or scuffs marble tile creates a maintenance cost that far exceeds the price of the doorstop itself. The outer shell material is critical — neoprene is an excellent choice because it's soft enough to protect surfaces but durable enough to withstand daily commercial use and it’s easily cleaned which keeps it good working order.

The same logic applies to the door itself. A stop that bangs against the bottom of a door or catches on the frame will eventually cause cosmetic damage. A well-designed stop positions itself cleanly under the door without tearing up the door face.

It Should Be Easy for Staff to Use
Housekeepers are moving fast. They don't have time to fiddle with a doorstop, reposition it twice, or bend all the way down to the floor to place it. The best guest room doorstops are designed for one-handed, quick placement — ours includes a cord and knocker so the housekeeper can signal occupancy and retrieve the stop without bending at all.

That last detail matters more than it sounds. Repetitive bending is one of the leading causes of back strain in housekeeping staff. Anything that reduces unnecessary bending over the course of an eight-hour shift is worth considering from a workers' comp and staff retention standpoint.

It Should Last
Hotels go through supplies fast. But a doorstop shouldn't be a consumable. A well-made Resort / hospitality doorstop — built with durable materials and a patented hold mechanism — should last for years of daily use. Regardless of the size of your property, the difference between a doorstop that lasts one year and one that lasts five years is significant.

The Bottom Line
The perfect hotel guest room doorstop is, surface-compatible, non-damaging, easy to use, and built to last. It sounds like a simple product, but the engineering behind it matters more than most people expect.

That's exactly what we set out to build with The Door Butler doorstop™. It's patented, made in the USA, and designed specifically for the demands of commercial hotel housekeeping. If you'd like to learn more or place a wholesale order, visit our Products & Prices page.

A great article regarding everyones Heart of the House employees. I'd also like to add that proving the safest and most practical tools will also help in staff retention.

Few hospitality team members have as much direct impact on guest satisfaction as those responsible for keeping hotel guestrooms pristine

If you are using upright mobile sleepers, then you have an issue with the pillow straps, because even a brand new “pillow strap”, is just a poor design (try putting a pillow behind it, it folds it in half, and ruins the pillow!) Once the strap breaks, the bed either becomes so unpresentable it gets put away in the back of a storage room (never to be seen again?), or gets delivered to a guest who is most likely already upset about having to sleep on a roll away bed to begin with!

I can say with confidence, because I have done the inventory in many hotels, you will be shocked to see how many of your upright mobile sleepers are out of service, due only to the “pillow strap” being broken. Wasted money, wasted storage space and unhappy guests...

The Bed Butler pillow strap alternative is the only real alternative for replacing worn and broken pillow straps. The Bed Butler pillow strap alternative will actually fix the problems created by the pillow straps poor design, it doesn’t just replace and duplicate the existing problems.

The other day I was asked to send a copy of my catalog...I had to explain that we only have these two products, but that we do these two products really well! They said they know, they just wanted to know if there was anything else cause they really liked using both of them! Maybe it's time to expand?

A few reasons to be using The Door Butler doorstop at your property:

• The Door Butler doorstop will save you money by decreasing your housekeepers “minutes per occupied room” and will not mar or damage your doors or floors, it fits all guest room doors.
• The Door Butler doorstop is safer for your housekeepers, requiring no bending to use, helping to reduce the incidence of lower back injuries
• The Door Butler doorstop is lightweight and takes up little space on the housekeeping cart and will fit in a uniform pocket.
• The Door Butler doorstop provides an elegant and consistent presentation that is visible to your hotel guest.

There’s no other doorstop out there that can make these (or better) claims. Treat your staff.

Just read an interesting article in Todays Hotelier regarding "top issues and solutions for your housekeeping department". Some interesting points:
- Hotels are turning to more mobile check-in options,
- Housekeepers may be the only employees that guests interact with,
- "Minutes per occupied rooms" are getting tighter.

It appears that proper training, incentivizing and providing the most efficient tools are more important than ever for the department that is not only "The Heart of the House", but now the "Face of the House" as well!
