Caught this Supernova last night. I believe it became visible last week or so with peak brightness on the 22-23 of this month. Imagine, someones sun exploded 50-55 million years ago and we are just now seeing it now🤯

Look closely at this picture. Take the time to zoom in to all corners of this picture and look at the galaxies. In this field of view, there could be over 700 galaxies. A galaxy is a large grouping of stars that could be anywhere from 100 to 500 billion stars. Much like our own Milky Way galaxy. Those small oval blobs in the picture are somewhere between 300 and 400 million light years away. Imagine the vastness of it and the unimaginable amount of time encompassed in this picture. Enjoy and as always feel free to share

Galaxies M81 center, M82 left, Ngc3077

Gravitational interactions of M81 with M82 and NGC 3077 have stripped hydrogen gas away from all three galaxies, forming gaseous filamentary structures in the group. Moreover, these interactions have allowed interstellar gas to fall into the centers of M82 and NGC 3077, leading to vigorous star formation or starburst activity there. M81 lies about 12 million light years distant.

It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Mr. Gayle H. Riggsbee of the Charlotte Astronomy Club. Gayle was a keynote speaker at BoBfest 2025 and was known to all local amateur astronomers. Information to come.

The Double Cluster, also known as Caldwell 14, consists of the open clusters NGC 869 and NGC 884 (often designated h Persei and χ (chi) Persei, respectively), which are close together in the constellation Perseus. Both visible to the naked eye, NGC 869 and NGC 884 lie at a distance of about 7,500 light-years in the Perseus Arm of the Milky Way galaxy.
