CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS: Be Part of the Pathways Story at Kayak at Sunset

Aransas Pathways is seeking volunteers for Pathways in Motion: Kayak at Sunset, a signature community event celebrating outdoor recreation, stewardship, and the natural beauty of Howard Murph Memorial Park and Copano Bay in Rockport, Texas.

Volunteers play a vital role in welcoming guests, supporting event operations, and helping create a safe and memorable experience for participants and visitors alike.

As a token of our appreciation, volunteers will receive a complimentary event shirt and a special thank-you gift.

Today we pause to honor and remember one of the founding members of the History Center for Aransas County;
William Joe Garland.

Through his dedication and commitment to preserving the stories of our community, he helped lay the foundation for the organization we know today. His contributions will continue to be felt through the exhibits, programs, and shared history that connect us all.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. We are grateful for the legacy he leaves behind and for the role he played in ensuring that the history of Aransas County would be preserved for future generations.

“To know Joe was to love him. I first met him while we were repainting the HC when it was first moved. I most remember his humor. He and Kam Wagert would place plastic roaches in the center to freak out Pam Stranahan. I remember him telling me about when he and several other men moved the coffee grinder from old store downtown. It was so heavy it was placed on a trailer. Joe said it was so filthy they washed it at a car wash. When they arrived at HC, . .one of the board members was upset because she thought he had ruined original patina. I was in stitches when he told me that one. For many years he and his wife,Pat, participated in the Tour of Historic Homes. I am including a photo of them decked out for Christmas. He loved people, but most of all he loved his wife Pat.”- Maureen Winkleman
