It’s National Milk Day and we are sharing a Sunbeam Dairy Milk Bottle, circa 1940 (2012.45.1).

DID YOU KNOW | Benton County received their first established dairy, Sunbeam Dairy, in 1932? It was located at 421 West Sycamore in Rogers for its entire 36-year history. The dairy received milk from local farmers, pasteurized and then bottled it. First deliveries were twice a day, but by the 1950s it was once every other day. Sunbeam closed its doors in 1968 as competition from larger dairies caused the smaller companies to close.

Today is the International Day of Potato!

🥔A pillar of sustainable agriculture, potatoes originated in the Andes and were brought to Europe in the 1500s.

🥔In recognition we are sharing a 19th century potato shovel used to dig potatoes in the field. The unique shape of this shovel allowed dirt to fall through while protecting the crop from damage. Visit the museum and see if you can find this object on display in our permanent galleries!

It’s National Grape Day!

🍇Did you know grapes were a common fruit grown in Northwest Arkansas during the early 20th Century? In Benton County, there were almost 16,000 vines in production in 1910. Grape growing expanded after Welch Company set up a factory in Springdale in 1920.
