DID YOU KNOW?! Bicyclists began a national Good Roads Movement in 1892? By 1896, Arkansas had a state branch of the movement which was supported by members in most counties. As part of the Good Roads Movement and to further promote his resort town, “Coin” Harvey led the formation of the Ozark Trails Association (OTA).

Want to learn more about the Ozark Trails Association? Visit the museum to see “Ozark Tourism: Land of a Million Smiles.” On display now!

FREE for Friends members. Not-yet-Friends members may join at friendsrhm.org or at the door for a $20 individual or $30 family annual membership.

Happy International Museums Day!

It’s International Museum Day! Did you know the United States has more museums than McDonalds and Starbucks combined? The International Council of Museums created to “raise awareness about the fact museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among peoples.”

While we are closed today, Monday, you can still support us by exploring our website – https://www.rogershistoricalmuseum.org. You can take a virtual tour of a past temporary exhibit, look through a selection of our collection, and vote for your favorite design in our annual Spring in the Ozarks Window Display Contest. It’s National Nylon Stocking Day! Did you know DuPont developed nylon in the 1930s, which replaced the silk used for parachutes? However, a new use for the man-made material quickly surpassed its military uses – the Nylon Stocking. Before the advent of nylon, people wore socks/stockings made from cotton, wool, rayon, or silk. With the new fully synthetic, silk-like fiber, stockings became more durable, affordable, and accessible, allowing women of any social standing to purchase a pair. No longer a luxury, stockings quickly became a staple of women’s fashion.

In Northwest Arkansas, Munsingwear, Inc. operated hosiery plants in Rogers and Bentonville. Together, from 1947-1966, they produced approximately 250,000 dozen pairs of nylon hosiery.

It’s National Apple Pie Day and you can’t have apple pie without apples! Did you know in the early 1900s, Benton County became the leading apple-producing county in the nation?

Come by the museum Tuesday-Saturday, 10-4 to learn more about the apple industry in Rogers.

Happy birthday, Rogers!!! 🥳🎉🤩🚂

Happy 145 birthday, Rogers! On this day, May 10, 1881, the first train arrived in Rogers! An enthusiastic crowd greeted the train as it steamed into the small town, named for Frisco general manager, Captain Charles Warrington Rogers. This event led the way for Rogers to become the booming city it is today! 🎉
