Then & now at Chieftains! 📸

These photos were taken in September 1969, and more than 57 years later, we're standing in those same spots to see what's changed — and what hasn't.

The grounds may look a little different, but one thing remains the same: the Major Ridge Home is still standing, with generations of history held within its walls.

It's pretty special to be able to look back at these photographs and see just how much time has passed while the house continues to stand the test of time.

🌳 A little piece of Chieftains to take home!

These wooden ornaments were crafted from chestnut trees that once stood on the museum property but had to be removed. Rather than letting that wood go to waste, it’s been given a new life as a special keepsake!

Each ornament carries a little piece of our property’s history and offers a unique way to remember your visit to Chieftains Museum/Major Ridge Home. ❤️

Stop by the museum Wednesday-Saturday from 10:00am-4:00pm to take a look at these and other special items we have in our gift shop!

Missed our Art in the Park event last month? We're hosting a second one this weekend! Join us from 10-12 on October 18th for a peaceful morning painting and sketching session.

The Parks and Historic Sites Art Contest is still going on until the end of the month, so high school students are encouraged to enter their art!

Join us this Saturday for our annual Skills of the Past Day event! We'll be demonstrating many historical skills, but this year we're adding a festive kids blowgun craft. Kids can craft a blowgun and try to "catch" a pumpkin to carve. Event is free with admission, kids blowgun craft is $5!
