Maidu Museum & Historic Site

Maidu Museum & Historic Site Connecting with the past to inspire the future!

We are a museum located on Nisenan homeland, dedicated to sharing the art, history, and culture of Native Californians. The Maidu Museum & Historic Site offers visitors a unique combination of a world class museum and 6,000 year old Native Californian Indian village site. Graced by oak trees and bordered on the south by a branch of Linda Creek/Strap Ravine, the nature area offers a loop trail that

takes you past ancient petroglyphs and hundreds of bedrock mortars for grinding acorns; evidence of Nisenan / Southern Maidu occupation of the site for thousands of years. Inside the museum you'll find exhibits portraying the Maidu way of life as well as an art gallery featuring the talents of contemporary Native Americans. The Museum Gift Shop offers a wide selection of books about Native Californians, handmade jewelry, minerals, arrowheads, other cultural artifacts and many nature-related items. Legal disclosures and terms of use governing content posted on city-sponsored social media sites can be found here – www.roseville.ca.us/social_media_policy.

Today is May 5, the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Relatives. We recognize and honor those lost and seek the justice they deserve.

The 2025 exhibition Walking in Our Moccs, featured Xochitl Martinez’s Mmiw leather medicine shield which was “intended to bring awareness of the missing and murdered indigenous women men children and two spirit relatives.”
