We’ve been hard at working on the property! We’re honored to serve as caretakers of the building once used as the division headquarters of General Joseph B. Kershaw. It now features handsome, up-to-date exhibit highlighting the military life of this hard-fought division during its time encamped in Russellville.

(General Kershaw assumed Command of McLaws' Division while at Bean's Station - Division special order No. 158, December 18th, 1863.)

What did it cost to host a Confederate general and his staff in 1863?

As we continue work on our new Kershaw exhibit, we’re also preserving the very building that once served as General Kershaw’s headquarters—now getting a fresh coat of paint as part of our ongoing efforts to protect this unique piece of history.

Inside the exhibit, one of our newest panels highlights an original Confederate Army voucher issued to Franklin W. Taylor, the property owner who rented the building for use by Kershaw’s staff. The total? $28.00—for the use of the office building and a room in the main house.

It’s a small detail, but one that offers a powerful glimpse into the everyday realities of the army’s presence here.

Come see the story for yourself—we look forward to welcoming you!
