Dear Vermont Friends,

I'm looking to source some glass mirror to make another life-size row boat this summer. Does anyone have any old mirrors they'd like to part with? I'll need a LOT of them. Any pieces larger than 12"x12" will help. They can be broken but I'm also hoping for at least a few intact pieces.

Thanks for your help! :)

Swing by the windows of 77ART to witness Alyena Feinberg's temporary work, "Gesture of something like home" painted directly on the 77ART windows. At the conclusion of the exhibit, the painting will be scraped away, never to be seen again.
Here are some words from the artists about their process:
I’m a painter who uses water-based mediums to create somewhat magical configurations of buildings in landscape, usually based on neighborhoods where I live or frequent. My work responds to the precedent of landscape painting in the Northeast, as well as to visual culture on social media, and to iconic suburban American dream aesthetics and ideals. Often from the vantage point of a passerby, my work communicates a relationship to landscape that is not about possession, but rather, memory, otherness, and feelings of both belonging and not belonging.
The show runs from April 6th through June 2nd

Season’s greetings 77ART family,

As we reflect on 2021 we are renewing our commitment to supporting artists and enriching the Rutland region through the arts. We’re asking for your support to help us build a more connected and inspiring future. Give by going here: https://bit.ly/giveto77ART

This year we’ll be focusing on:
•Continuing to develop and hone our flagship artist residency program as a cultural exchange between Rutland and contemporary artists from around the world
•Invigorating our exhibition program by inviting artist alumni, guest curators, and other arts professionals to show work downtown.
•Strengthening the organization while planning strategically and taking the long view for our future
Learn more about what 77ART is all about here: https://youtu.be/RP6VZ0q34sE

We’re proud to have had another great year at 77ART:
•After 2020, we reinstated our residency program and safely welcomed artist residents (this year from around the United States), followed by an alumni week program
•hosted community events
•secured vital grants
•received over $8500 in in-kind and monetary donations in 2021
•and experienced tremendous positive growth within our organization with the addition of Lionel Church, Karla Ganley, and Justin Jankus to our Operations Team.

It was incredible to see how each artist responded to their time in Rutland and produced new, innovative works.

Every year brings different challenges and, while it’s safe to assume that 2022 will look different than years before, we are devoted to making a difference in Rutland and providing crucial opportunities for artists worldwide with your continued support.
You can help to bring more talented artists and art to Rutland with a one-time contribution or with a sustainable monthly donation to 77ART today! https://bit.ly/giveto77ART

Every donation makes a huge difference and is 100% tax-deductible.

Thank you for supporting talented, inspiring, early-career artists in Rutland!

Excerpts from Estate Sale - A Solo Exhibition by Corrine Yonce

NEW WORK IN THE 77ART WINDOWS

We will be hosting Corrine Yonce in our windows at 77ART (59-67 Merchants Row) with an excerpt from her solo exhibition, "Estate Sale". Her work will be viewable 24 hours a day in our windows from November 22nd - January 15th.

Here is what our artist has to say about her work:

“Home,” especially as it bumps against the private/public, threads my art, my community projects, my employment. My paintings and installations depict figures lounging, laying, and leaning on one another in domestic interiors. The foregrounded female figure is often enlarged and warped into the first-person “i” perspective, prioritizing her in the tight interior. The figures perform contemporary narratives of home leisure, often branded with the pervasive icon of the smartphone or tablet.

My work considers the intimacies of home-space and the figures sharing that space. I start with small, journal-drawings from observation but inflate those ideas into larger-than-life figures. These sketches squeeze into the quiet moments within the flurry of daily life. The paintings reach for domestic reference points both in content and in material, hanging like drapes and featuring puddling mops & reflective mirrors. I integrate household objects with a sense of humor, reverence, and shame. Like my experience of home, the works are messy and imperfect. The vibrancy of color gives voice to the joyfulness and subtleties of melancholy that I document both in my daily experiences and from within the community I work alongside as a housing advocate.

I want to thank all of you for making the 2021 residency season such a success. This project would not be possible without you and it’s such a privilege to be in a community with people who come together, against all odds, to make things happen.

I want to thank MKF properties and Mark Foley for his ongoing support and for the use of Rutlands most wonderful and eclectic spaces.

Thanks also to The MINT - Rutland's Makerspace, our very own world-class makerspace and a crown jewel of Rutland’s creative sector. The use of their state-of-the-art shops and equipment exponentially expands creative possibilities for our artists. (seriously, if you don’t know them already you NEED to check them out!)

Thanks to Chamber & Economic Development of the Rutland Region and the Downtown Rutland, Vermont for their ongoing investment in our region and for all the loving support they’ve shown us— not to mention receiving all artist mail.

A huge thanks to the Vermont Farmers Food Center for coordinating programs that helped feed our artists during their time with us.

All my admiration and gratitude goes out to you wonderful volunteers and ‘lunch angels’ who provided home-cooked hospitality to our artists and really showcased the generosity of spirit that Rutland embodies.

77ART would not be possible without our team of dedicated volunteers who do everything from PR to housekeeping: John Brodowski on operations, Lionel Peter Church on strategy, Karla Ganley on grant writing, Justin Jankus Creative Services on design, Beth Miller on exhibitions, and Martha Molnar on media outreach.
And last but not least, thanks to all the artists who took part in this year’s residency; who came to Rutland at personal expense to give of their creativity, showcase their talents and grow alongside us. It is a privilege to know you.
I’m incredibly humbled to be able to build something out of nothing and this is only possible because we live in one of the most generous places on earth. It takes a village, and truly, ours is a remarkable one.
Stay tuned for wonderful things on the horizon.

Sincerely,

Whitney Ramage,
Residency Director — 77ART

STRAWBERRY POP AT THE POWWOW _ this residency has been so fun and I’m happy I was able to make this piece for our group show, Fire at the Opera House. During my time in Vermont, I’ve really allowed myself to make the work I want to make, make things that bring me joy and make me laugh, and not give a dang about Eurocentric art standards. It’s been explorative and freeing in my practice and I look forward to making more when I return home towards the end of this month. Wado to and all the great friends I’ve made here!
