Van Gogh had many pairs of shoes. He never painted the new ones. Only the worn ones. The ones that had hours of life inside them.
He wasn't painting shoes. He was painting time.

33 sec in Paris as a village with Sisley
Sisley was a countryside guy. A landscape painter at heart. He needed fields, riverbanks, rural communes. The frantic industrialization that fascinated so many of his peers left him cold. So when he did paint the big city, he went to the river. And made one of the most iconic buildings in Paris look like a countryside mansion. 150 years later, we still need that. Still need green.
