Upcoming event at the State Indian Museum: Basket Weaving Demonstration Day, Saturday, November 16, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Celebrate Native American Heritage Month and learn more about the cultural significance of baskets in California’s Indigenous cultures and why tending the land through environmental reciprocity and stewardship is so important. Visitors will have the opportunity to observe traditional basket weaving techniques from community partners, including Dixie Rogers (Karuk), Jacky Calanchini (Nisenan, Shingle Springs Band), Jennifer Bates (Northern Sierra Mewuk), and Jeanette Innerarity (Miwok, Ione Band). The Museum will also have guided tours and hands-on arts & crafts activities, including a basket design coloring station and DIY paper basket making.

The State Indian Museum is located at 2618 K Street in Downtown Sacramento. Admission to the museum is $5.00 for adults, $3.00 for youth, and free for ages five and under. Visitors will also receive complimentary admission to Sutter's Fort State Historic Park—available on this Demonstration Days only.
