Howard J. Meredith was a Sacramento firefighter who gave his life serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. The Sacramento Fire Department dedicated its Fire Station No. 5 in his honor, a tribute commemorated upon its opening on November 15, 1948.

Howard J. Meredith was born on April 23, 1909. He was appointed to the Sacramento Fire Department on June 1, 1939. His name appears on the 1941 SFD Seniority Roster but not on the 1942 Roster. He died on February 28,1945 in Germany after fighting at the Battle of the Bulge. Records indicate that he was a prisoner of war at the time of his death.
