Another opportunity to thank a Veteran for his services and his ultimate sacrifice. Over the past year, we have established a memorial for Lt. Russel E. Voris for his service in the Vietnam War. Lt. Voris was shot down while flying on a mission. His classmates of 1964 have never forgotten him or his efforts and continue to make is life sacrifices known to others in the community.
A year ago, we created a life size image of a pilot along with his plane which set proudly in front of the Cameron High School on Chestnut Street. In an effort to direct those who walk along the street sidewalk, they wanted a sign created that would indicate the direction or draw attention to the memorial. With the use of the 3D Printer, and Color Core Plastics, we were able to recreate the pilot and plane along with all of the information about Lt. Voris as you can see in the pictures.
A special thanks to Larry Workman, Jim Plymell, and Dennis Pulliam for their time and efforts to set the sign in a location for easy viewing for those passing by.
Remember to give thanks to a Veteran. It will brighten their day for being appreciated and will make your day even better for taking time to acknowledge their efforts. Take time to hear their stories and what they experienced because once they pass, the stories and the words go with them.
Thanks to all for reading and caring about our Veterans. And remember, Every Day Counts.

This is a long post, so I apologize in advance but it's worth your time. Any opportunity to honor and recognize our Veterans is an opportunity to share their stories, their sacrifices and their love for our country. On September 11 at Wyatt Park Baptist Church, a special presentation called, 'PATRIOTS DAY TRIBUTE, Vietnam POW/MIA will be presented on the service life of Captain Guy Gruters. Army Col. Milton Toratti has dedicated his life to our country with his service and now writes and sells books showcasing the lives of other veterans and their war time experiences.

On September 11, we would live to 'PACK the HOUSE' as Captain Gruters shares his experiences as a POW in Vietmans, 'Hanoi Hilton'. Captain Gruters was kept in a Tiger Cage for many years. Only feet away from his cage was Captain John McCain. They created tapping sounds as a way to communicate to each other and others in the area. The cages were made of large bamboo with sizes of 3'x3'x7'6", kept in the outside elements as a way to torture the POW, insects along with rats were only a part of the surrounding during their captivity.

I was honored/humbled when ask If I could make a replication of the a 'Tiger Cage' to be on display during speaking engagements. It will be on display September 11 and the Wyat Park Baptist Church.

I know many of you may not have been aware of these conditions, I know I was not. But here is an opportunity to listen, to see firsthand and to understand that 'Freedom is not free'. Someone has sacrificed their lives with great pain and many with the ultimate sacrifice.

All of the proceeds from any of the events, book signings and so much more will go directly to the Cameron Veterans Home, located in Cameron, Missouri.

I would ask that you please look over the flier I have attached. If possible and you can make arrangements, come and support our Veterans. If you cannot come, please consider purchasing a ticket to support the event and be a part of the financial gift to the Cameron Veterans Home. Use the QR code and pay by Venmo or reach out and we will get you everything you need. You will not be disappointed. And if you can, share this post with all of your friends' other veterans so that maybe they will have a change to be a part of something special.

Thanks for reading and every day, take time to Thank a Veteran.

On this day we remember our Veterans and the service they gave to our country so that we can enjoy family and friends on this day, July 4th. Over the years there have been special projects to be a part of that share in the importance, the sacrifices and the gifts we have been given by our Veterans of the past. Memorials are a tribute to those who gave so much to our country while asking nothing in return but a thank you and signs of appreciation for their efforts.

Cameron has always been a place that is close to our family. For 41years in Cameron we shared time with family and friends but on this day, it was always about recognizing the Veterans who served. Then hosting friends to our home and remembering why we are here.

There are now three special memorials in Cameron that share their own stories for others to hear, to see their names, and designs that represent their life.

Most recently a group of classmates and other local veterans ask if I might design s special memorial for a fallen friend/classmate of 1964. Without hesitation I said I would be honored to be a part of the project. Lt. Russell E. Voris was a pilot for the USAF and was killed in action in the Vietnam War. The classmates want to erect the memorial in the center of a previous gift made by the class to the Cameron High School in the east side of the building adjacent to Chestnut Street.

After some discussions it was determined we wanted an image of a pilot and an image of the plane that Lt. Voris few during his mission in Vietnam. The plane is a replica of the one Lt. Voris flew, the A37 Dragonfly. Once an image of a pilot was found with is helmet, then on to find a great picture of the A37 that could be shown in flight at the just the right angle was needed. A picture of a similar plane is shown below for comparisons.

As with any project there are people to thank that went out of their ways to make this project happen. Davey Hausman of Hausman Metal Works in Saint Joe is always a pleasure to work with on any project, but he took this one to heart. With their CNC machines and the design created and given to their staff, the once dream came together through their fabrication. But that's not all. Needing to have it power coated, he made arrangements with Tyson Cox on Saint Joe Avenue to sand blast, paint and heat for the final product. Without Davey and his connections and Tyson and his ability to work it in to his schedule, the project could have easily gone on for weeks for completion.

Once the fabrication was completed then it was out to Cameron to complete the installation, fill in the dirt to create a planting area for new plants and then added black mulch for the final touch.
Honored beyond words. It was just as you dreamed it could be. The pilot stands proud, and the plane looks as if to be circling from a distance in the background. Cameron does it right and for the right reasons. Come and visit the large memorial on Park Street, just west of the high school, then venture to the Veterans Home and enjoy the entrance that represents all of the military services and finally stop by and see Lt. Voris in front of the school.
Thank to Mike Hanrahan, Dennis Pulliam and Jim Plymell for their help on 'game day installation. If you needed something, they made sure you had in in hand. To Jack and Larry Workman for always being there and their help in the installation. I think we did LT. Voris and his family proud.

Finally, thank you for caring about our veterans. Today we celebrate because and for them. And most of all, take time to listen to their stories. Once the pass, the stories go too and that's a loss for all of us.

A dear friend of mine from my connection with the Mosaic Auxiliary board, Julie Case ask if I could make something special for a friend of hers that is retiring. After 45 years of service, and yes, that is correct; 45 years Terry Chapman is retiring and she wanted to do something special. Jack Daniels whisky was mentioned more than once so we decided to do a barrel lid in his honor. It was great to make something that will remind him of his years of service. Thanks for looking and thank you Julie for the opportunity. Another great day at the Barn. Remember the barn doors are always open.

Fund raising and donating to a great cause is always rewarding. To help an organization make things better for their surroundings or to help with the success of student athletes is always fun to be a part of. Missouri Western has an annual Golf Classic there they share a portion of the proceeds with the local WYCA here in Saint Joe on July 15th and the famous and BEAUTIFUL Country Club Golf Course. This year was no exception, so we jumped at the opportunity to give so that others could have something better. Life is good. Keep Smiling. Take a look at this link. Might find something you can't live without and thanks for looking...
