The Walter Cronkite Memorial, a tribute to the famed news anchor who was born in St. Joseph, is located in Spratt Hall Atrium at Missouri Western State University, 4525 Downs Drive. The Memorial includes several wall displays devoted to all aspects of his life, from his childhood and family to his time at the anchor desk and his passion for NASA’s Space Program. There are interactive kiosks dedica

ted to his news broadcasts and self-narrated stories about his life. In honor of Cronkite’s 1944 perilous flight into enemy-occupied Holland as a war correspondent, a replica of the WWII Waco Combat Glider he flew on is suspended from the ceiling. The memorial also contains a display of items from his life and career and a replica of Cronkite's 1970 newsroom where you can sit at his desk and take your picture. Admission to the Memorial is free. The Memorial is open from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Memorial is closed on major holidays and Missouri Western scheduled breaks, or in the event of inclement weather. Check our website for details: https://wcm.missouriwestern.edu/

This little book was tucked away in a storage bin in the WCM office closet. It turned out to be one of young Walter's college textbooks from his two years at UT Austin! The book dates from 1932 and is in good condition for its age. I wonder what Walter gleaned from these pages!

The Walter Cronkite Memorial will be closed for the duration of Missouri Western State University's Fall Break from November 18th to the 26th. The Memorial will re-open on the 27th. Enjoy your Thanksgiving! 🦃🍂

The Memorial will also be closed November 29th for MWSU Grad Fest.

The wait is over! The Walter Cronkite Memorial is excited to announce the opening of a new exhibition entitled Earth to Walter: Cronkite in the Age of Environmentalism. Featuring never-before-displayed objects from the Memorial's collection, this exhibit analyzes Cronkite's role in the environmental movement of the 1960s and '70s as well as the broadcaster's personal love for nature.

Oh boy! There's a brand-new display coming to the Walter Cronkite Memorial in mid-September. We appreciate your patience while one of our cases is a work in progress. The Memorial will remain open for normal operating hours, M-F, 10-4.

We can't wait for you to come see the new exhibit!
