This Juneteenth we are highlighting the brilliant inventor, Granville Woods! Woods held over 50 U.S. patents focusing mainly on telephones, trains and streetcars. After the Civil War, Woods became known as the first African American mechanical and electrical engineer.

The patents here are for his railway telegraph and induction telegraph system. Come to the Pavek Museum to see some telegraphs and even use them! Our curator, Curator Luis Felipe Eguiarte Souza, Ph. D., recently went on a trip to New York and visited the New York Transit Museum in Brooklyn.

Have you heard about the recent events at the Pavek Museum? It’s been busy the past few months between our Trivia Night, Watt Do You Know, and S.T.E.A.M. Saturday: Electromagnetism Day, . Pavek Museum President, Nina Larson Weber, talked about lessons she learned in her career for aspiring museum professionals at our lecture series, Connecting Conversations.

The Pavek Museum is pleased to announce the date and theme of our 2026 radio play fundraiser, Pavek After Dark. Launched in 2023, in celebration of the Pavek Museum’s 35th anniversary, this event honors our partnership with the Minnesota Broadcasters Hall of Fame with a cast of Hall of Fame members.

Save the date for this year’s show, “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” on Halloween – Saturday, October 31, 2026!
