We can’t wait to celebrate Juneteenth with everyone attending the Jazzy Juneteenth Jubilee! 🤩

This year’s JJJ would not be possible without the support of our generous sponsors, including one of our Heritage Sponsors, Blake Investment Partners.

Thank you for supporting not only our event, but also The Woodson’s educational programming and its vision for a purpose‑built museum.

Did you know that on this date in 1863, one of the first military units in the United States that was composed entirely of Black soldiers was deployed during the Civil War?

Starting in Boston, they traveled to the coast of South Carolina, and engaged in the Battle of Grimball's landing in July of 1863. They received praise for their determination and bravery for stopping a Confederate advance.

Following this achievement, they fought during the Battle of Fort Wagner and the Battle of Olustee. By August of 1865, they were no longer active, but in 2008, they were reactivated to serve the Massachusetts National Guard.
