“Soft Serve Cat” by would like to know where we’re getting ice cream this summer now that has closed ?? 🤷🏻‍♀️🍦 And also who will have pumpkin soft serve in the fall?? 🎃🍦 Cats are always asking the important questions 🍦😻🍦We miss Dairy Witch — we only got to be neighbors one short summer before they closed after 74 years 😿🍦 We hope something new comes to Boston Street in Salem soon— there are a few vacant places with potential 🤞🏻🤞🏻 Maybe someday more 🍦🤞🏻🤞🏻
“Soft Serve Cat” - acrylic & graphite on canvas, 2019 by Melissa Flores; currently on view at Salem Cat Museum on loan by artist, NFS 🍦😻

💙🩵SOLD🩵💙 “Those Baby Blues” by Artist Cyndi Dodes is the first piece out of Salem Cat Museum’s current exhibition to be scooped up by a lucky collector! That black cat stamp on the label in the 2nd pic is the museum’s equivalent to a gallery “red dot” indicating SOLD 🖤🐈‍⬛🖤You can still visit “Those Baby Blues” in the museum until the end of the exhibition since the collector was kind enough to allow continued display— afterwards it will be sent to its new home 🏠😻 This is your reminder: if a price is listed on a piece in the exhibition, it is available for sale. Many pieces in the museum are not for sale— these either belong to the museum, artists, or collectors— but there are quite a few this cycle that are for sale too! We’ve attached a current inventory and price list if you’re interested—- please contact Salem Cat Museum via DM if you would like more details on any available pieces.

Meow 👋🏻😻 If you’re just joining us, welcome! Salem Cat Museum is a small private museum in Salem, MA open in its current location on Boston Street for 18 months now 🎉🎉We exist to inspire engagement with cats through arts, artifacts, and Salem’s unique relationship with felines 😻😻 The museum’s admission is voluntary, with half the proceeds going to area nonprofits. Unlike some other Salem attractions the Cat Museum does not require advance reservations— you can walk right in. Come visit during open hours (Th-Mon, 11a-6p) 😻😻
Apologies to , we can’t resist a pun and we heard you were a cat fan so maybe you won’t mind?? 😹😹😻😻 We saw our first “Walkens Welcome” sign outside in Tucson a few years ago and it really stuck. We hope this message sticks too— and if it does, sorry (but not really) 😹😹

🚗😻🚗 Greetings Cat Roadtrip fans!! 🚗😻🚗 Here’s another update of your favorite catty travel guide through Mew England, just in time for your summer travel plans!! This list has been crowd-sourced over 3 postings— what started as a list of 10 known locations has grown into today’s list of 52 😻🎉😻🎉 That’s a lot of cat places to go! Many places on this list have operated less than ten years— there’s a lot of recent development in the cat business world, and we couldn’t be happier to be witnessing it in real time! Know of a location we missed? Please tell us in the comments to be included in the next update 🙏🏻🙏🏻😻😻

Thank you to all that came to yesterday’s Great Cat Stuff Swap! Many cat things were claimed by happy new owners! We tried to swap a bunch of stuff with .cat.aid for their kitten Berkeley— we appreciated their visit even though we weren’t granted an impulse kitten adoption 🤪😹😻 That’s probably for the better 🤔😹 Our favorite swap of all came in an unexpected place yesterday— after work we stopped by new print shop’s Grand Opening with a small good luck kitty token…. We didn’t expect to receive a return present, but Britt presented us with a hand-carved Space Cadet cat logo stamp (Salem Cat Museum’s logo that she designed in 2024) 😻😻😻🖤🖤🖤🖤 What a wonderful surprise!! Now we’re over here stamping anything and everything, stay tuned for more 😻😻 Thank you and congratulations on your beautiful new store 🎉🎉😻😻

The devil is in the details… But wait, cats are in the details! Does this mean 🐱 = 😈…. No we can’t accept that! It must mean angels are in the details too 👼🐱😈😹 This post is dedicated to DETAILS! If there is one thing that has been standing out about Salem Cat Museum’s current cat art display it’s been that no matter how long people stare at it, they seem to notice new things they hadn’t before. Pictured are some things we think deserve a closer look— but there’s a lot more where that came from at Salem Cat Museum! Come see for yourself— open Thursdays-Mondays 11am-6pm. The current collection and all of its details can be seen until the end of July 😻😻

The beginning of May typically signals the start of the busier season in the museum world — Salem is no exception to that (though it’s seasonal busyness tends to peak in a different month than other places). To celebrate the season of exploration, Salem Cat Museum rounded up a list of museums & historic points of interest in Salem 🎉😻🎉 But wait, aren’t there other companies that already do this in Salem?? There are— but the thing about those companies is they require payment from places to be put on a list—- whereas this list contains ALL the museums and sites we know about (no payment from places required). You might not find Salem Cat Museum mentioned in official print advertising channels (we prioritize other expenses over advertising), but we do hope you find us (and all the cool attractions in Salem) all the same 👀😻👀😻 Hopefully this helps you do that!
Did we skip your favorite thing in Salem bc we didn’t know about it? Tell us in the comments 👇🏻
Please note: map not to scale — and there is significantly more water between Salem/Beverly/Danvers than we cared to draw 🌊😹

One thing about owning a museum dedicated to a specific subject: many people tend to bring you things about that subject 😸 Salem Cat Museum has been fortunate to receive many things from many different people— some are unique things we have added to our collection, while other things might be duplicates of things we already have. We also are klutzy and end up breaking/chipping many figurines & crystals we attempt to sell— we remove these from the sales floor as damage is discovered, but have amassed quite the pile of unsellable (but still enjoyable to some) items. For one day only on 5/16/26 Salem Cat Museum will have a table where you can select unwanted cat items for free! Broken crystals/figurines will have a limit of one per customer, while other items on the swap table can be adopted in unlimited quantities by whoever wants them 😻😻🎉🎉 This is actually the second time Salem Cat Museum will host the Great Cat Stuff Swap— the first was at our pop-up space in 2023 and it was a big hit. Don’t miss out on this one kitties! Caturday 5/16 only 😻🎉 Salem Cat Museum’s admission is voluntary during the Great Cat Stuff Swap and Always 🎉
Some swap items might include: cat books, figurines, framed art, scarves, puzzles, cat collars, housewares, etc. If you have items to swap, you may bring them to the museum up until 5/16– it is not necessary to bring items to take items from the swap.
Swap hours: 11a-6p, 5/16/25
Museum hours: 11a-6p, Thursdays - Mondays
