SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

WEEKEND OF WORKSHOPS 2026

We have made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s Weekend of Workshops.

Our event has grown from a blacksmithing “hammer-in” to a full itinerary of workshops.

In 2026, we were without a blacksmith instructor and some other traditional elements so this year it simply would not be the same.

With the date also falling on Father’s Day weekend we felt it best to pause rather than to offer something that does not meet expectations.

We are grateful to the artisans who were willing to participate and are already looking ahead to bringing the event back stronger next year.

BEEHIVE OVEN AND PAVILION UPDATE - PATIO BRICKS NEEDED

This summer we will be working towards completing and official opening of the beehive oven and pavilion.

We will be finishing the oven dome and a small cover canopy.

We also need to slightly expand the footprint of our pavilion patio.

To expand out the patio we need some additional red bricks.
If you are in the area and have bricks to donate, we seek:

red bricks,
with no masonry perforations,
must have smooth edge (not serrated), and
reasonably have all sides intact

FRIENDS OF THE FORT is the volunteer arm of Fort New Salem. They are a talented group of people who clean, cut grass, repair, paint, work our gardens, assist at events, reenact and so much more.

Over the past 2 months, the Friends of the Fort volunteered over 300 hours transforming our campus as we prepared for our 2026 season including.

Our 8-acre campus is refreshed and ready, thanks to FRIENDS OF THE FORT.

We tip our hat to the energetic, hardworking and dedicated members.
