Oregon Fire Service Museum

Oregon Fire Service Museum Since ancient times, the people and technology used to fight fires have played an integral role in society.

Our Mission is to preserve and share with the public our structural and wildland fire service heritage with a focus on Oregon; to raise public awareness of fire prevention and safety; and to honor the fire service community. Thus, the equipment and apparatus associated with firefighting are part of a greater story that should be passed from one generation to the next. The Oregon Fire Service Museu

m, Memorial and Learning Center is dedicated to sharing Oregon's rich history of structural and wildland fire service, providing and promoting public fire safety education for all ages, and honoring those in fire service. By preserving, restoring, and displaying fire service artifacts, the statewide museum will tell the story of evolving fire prevention and suppression technology. Additionally, the museum plans to collect personal stories and biographical information about the people involved in fire service to aid genealogists, historians, and others in their research. Currently the museum is raising funds and finalizing plans to construct a permanent museum facility at Antique Powerland, a community of heritage museums in Brooks, Oregon near I-5 and Salem. The initial phase of construction will create a firehouse museum building reflecting the architecture of a 1920s two-bay, two-story firehouse with single story education wings. Behind the fire station, a showroom will accommodate a portion of the museum's collection of antique and vintage fire apparatus. Further phased construction will add a memorial plaza, additional vehicle showroom space, and a restoration workroom. The museum shall strive to provide accessibility for all visitors.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE: Just about a month ago I posted an update about sending our cast iron columns off to get restored. Well, they are back! I picked them up yesterday. They have been sandblasted, repaired, and painted, ready for installation. That will not likely happen until July due to the preparations required and the fact that I have deadlines on our interior construction project.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE: We are still working on completing the spaces in our expanded mezzanine (now second floor). The framing has been completed for all of the spaces including our future wildland firefighting gallery and classroom/boardroom. Rough-in electrical is complete, drywall was hung, and the drywall finishing is in process heading towards a goal of completion by June 30. This project was funded in part by grants from Braemar and Autzen foundations and Oregon State Parks and Recreation.

Oregon Fire Service Museum Seek Surplus Fire Service Vehicles & Equipment

The Oregon Fire Service Museum is seeking late model surplus fire service vehicles including fire trucks, ambulances and staff vehicles to be donated to them. The fire museum has been successful in their fundraising efforts by selling donated vehicles to good homes. We are also seeking other surplus fire equipment. Funds generated will benefit the fire museum’s phase-two construction efforts.

If you or your fire dept/district you are interested in donating to them please contact us by PM, email at [email protected] or by calling 541-554-0669.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE: I'm behind schedule on this update. Several months ago, we reported on the construction of a garage building to get more of our rigs under cover. Over the fall, board members pitched in to assemble the building kit. We have a bit of trim left to go but we have passed our final building permit inspection and have begun moving trucks in.
