What better way to kick off Pride Month than by celebrating our 2026 Out Loud cohort? 🌈

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the opening of the 10th anniversary exhibition. We’re so proud of this year’s Out Louders and the work they’ve created — thoughtful, bold, personal, and entirely their own.

The exhibition is on view through June 6, so stop by and celebrate these incredible young artists with us.

Special thanks to UMOCA educator Alison Neville and local artist Alisha Anderson_a_anderson for leading this year’s cohort, and to L-E, founder of the program, for joining us in celebrating this milestone year. ✨

One more week to experience Sky Hopinka’s video, Lore, in the Codec Gallery.

In Lore, Hopinka animates memories through layered transparencies of friends and familiar landscapes projected overhead, while his voice carries a poem shaped by reflections on family, Indigenous mythologies, and the end of a relationship.

As images shift and overlap, memory becomes something constructed, carried forward, and retold — a form of self-made lore. The film closes with musicians performing Bo Diddley’s 1955 “Heart-O-Matic Love,” a song that imagines love as a road trip.

On view through June 6.

Schvitz while you soundscape. Tickets at https://www.maplegrovesprings.com/event-details/a-score-for-no-film-concert-with-umoca

UMOCA is teaming up with Maple Grove Hot Springs to present A Score for No Film, an “acid western” live score performed poolside in the River Lounge as part of the Maple Grove Concert Series.

An ensemble of local musicians builds a shifting sonic environment around video work by Moses Williams—layering guitar, organ, banjo, pedal steel, bass, percussion, and projection into a live, cinematic score. Drawing from the sound worlds of Morricone, Neil Young, Langhorne, and Jodorowsky, the performance moves between sparse, filmic passages and dense improvisation.

Featuring Chaz Prymek, Nora Price, Taku Ishikawa, M. Horton Smith, Ian Hazel, Ian Camp, and sound tech Mike Fuchs. Opening set by St. Moan.

Presented in conjunction with Altered States in the Acid West, supported by Art Bridges Foundation.

Join us Thursday, June 4 from 7–8 PM for an in-gallery conversation with artists Ariel C. Wilson and Matt Kowal on from where the sun is, to wherever you are, currently on view in UMOCA’s AIR Space. RSVP at https://utahmoca.org/event/ariel-wilson-matt-kowal-artist-talk/

Developed during Wilson’s 2025 Artist-in-Residence at UMOCA, the exhibition traces a continuous cycle of daylight and darkness across twenty-four time zones through live we**am imagery gathered around the globe.

Wilson and Kowal will discuss the development of the project, collaboration, photography, environmental observation, and the technological systems that shape how we experience landscape and distance today.

Audience Q&A to follow.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for The Sacred West—both at the symposium and out on the trail. From presentations and performances to workshops, conversation, and shared time in the landscape, the weekend opened space for thoughtful exchange around land, perception, ecology, ritual, and place.

We’re especially grateful to Dr. Benjamin Lewis, Stephen Rodgers, Blanca Stacey Villalobos, and Kat Nix for sharing their work and practices with such generosity, and to everyone who joined us for Canyon Songs and carried these conversations into the foothills.
