The National Geographic Society has called the landmark "the most beautiful building in San Antonio." This National Historic Landmark represents the last visual vestiges of the Presidio San Antonio de Béjar. Traditionally known as the Spanish Governor's Palace, it was the original Comandancia (residence and working office) for the Captains of the military garrison from 1722 until the early 1800s.

Come see where Spain had its first permanent military presence in San Antonio. Come learn Texas' earliest history under Spanish rule. Come and be delightfully surprised at the beautifully landscaped gardens in the courtyard. Admission Rates:

The Spanish Governor’s Palace and the World Heritage Center will be CLOSED on Friday, April 24, 2026, for San Jacinto Day.

The World Heritage Center will resume regular hours of operation on Saturday, April 25.

The Spanish Governor’s Palace will be closed on Saturday, April 25, and will resume regular hours of operation on Sunday, April 26.

Calling all creators, dreamers, and visionaries! How would you like to see your artwork transformed into a canvas and exhibition in Èvian, France, during the G7 Summit? 🌎

🖼️The City of San Antonio World Heritage Office invites young artists (ages 5-25) to share their creativity by telling a story. If your work is chosen for submission, French artist Aurélie Castex may incorporate your creation into the G7 Summit mural and exhibition.

Due to inclement weather and to ensure the safety of our staff and community, the Spanish Governor’s Palace and World Heritage Center will be closed on Sunday, January 25.

We plan to resume normal hours of operation on Tuesday, January 27.

🚨 Cold Weather Alert 🚨️

To help residents stay safe and warm this weekend, the City will open six overnight Resilience Hubs beginning Saturday, January 24, through noon on Monday, January 26. Be sure to check on family, friends, and neighbors who may be more vulnerable and share to help spread the word.

City libraries, community centers, and senior centers will serve as places to stay warm during their regular hours.

The City’s Community Connections Hotline (210-207-1799) is operating 24 hours beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday to support our unhoused neighbors.
