Im reposting this tip from way back to help with questions on Using Bullseye glass.

Bullseye glass torch tips day.

Today is Pinks
It seems as if we are all searching for the perfect pink. I found the best pinks for my work in COE 90 Bullseye Glass.

BE 0301 Pink (Pb)**
I call this one stink pink. It is one of those picky pinks you need to treat with respect. If you follow these rules you will get a beautiful pink. Two things about this pink that made me give it that nickname are it is a bit shocky & can lose its color & mottle easily. Most of the time taking your time slowly heating helps. Or you can *preheat the rods in the kiln. When selecting rods in this color check for internal bubbles they are usually the cause. Once you have it heated BE 0310 to a soft orange glow try not to overheat this pink. BE 0301 Pink does not like to be “cooked” if you over heat BE 0301 Pink it will turn white and streaky. If you do over heat this pink you can let it cool a little and then restrike it to deep pink by heating it to a soft orange glow. You may have to do this several times to bring the pink back.

BE 0421 Petal Pink
Petal pink is a very pretty pale pink that does not mind the heat. I have had no trouble at all with Petal pink changing colors if overheated. This pink is consistent in color never streaky. Sadly right now there are no Petal Pink rods available at the time I am writing this they are having production problems with this color.

1232 Light Fuchsia (Pb)**
This is a relatively new addition to the Bullseye pinks. BE 1232 is the replacement for BE1215 Light pink striker as that color is no longer in production for rod. Don’t cry yet BE 1215 still available in sheet & frit. Light fuchsia is a very nice “hot Pink” only slightly purple like the Fuchsia flower. It is another pink that will give you a deep transparent pink.

BE 1311 Cranberry Pink (Pb)**
This pink is very similar to COE 104 Rubino in color and reactions. Cranberry Pink does not work well with the Hot Head torch. It tends to liver and it has some very unpleasant reactions with any glass that has sulfur or lead. It is beautiful when used alone in a disk or small bead. The color is concentrated and it can give you many of the rubino oro reactions with silver foil. These reactions turn into greens & turquoises when used sparingly over fine silver foil. You can also use BE 1401 Crystal clear in between Cranberry Pink and other colors to prevent a reaction.

BE 1342 Cranberry Sapphirine (Pb)**
Cranberry Sapphirine is very similar to BE 1311 but plays well with the Hot Head torch chemistry. It is not as reactive as BE 1311 Cranberry and a little less dense in color. I would pick 1342 Sapphirine over 1311 Cranberry if I just wanted a deep red pink with less reactions.

BE 1821 Erbium pink (tint)
Erbium is a very pale transparent pink. This pink is great for making a solid bead, encasing or the base for pink frits. This pink gives you just a hint of pink when used to encase. It plays well with pinks and is not reactive.

TIPS:
* pre-warming glass in the kiln. If you have a kiln with a bead door set your rods inside the kiln with most of the rod outside of the kiln.( see photos) Be aware the rods will be very hot close to the kiln so pick them up further away & be careful. Once they are hot use them immediately while still warm. Rods can be placed in the kiln before heating the kiln or once its hot. They can go in & out of the kiln as you are working. This helps with the shocking problem.
** LEAD:
Most Bullseye Pinks are lead bearing (Pb) and react with sulfur this is important when mixing and layering. Seeing the word LEAD may make you worry about your beads. Unless you are eating or drinking acidic things from your beads the danger of the lead leaching is minimal. Encasing with BE 1401 or BE 1101 clear is recommended if you are using these glass colors for serving food.
