As wraps up, we’re highlighting Marisa Morán Jahn, the artist who created our stunning Great Hall mural “TIPSY”! 🥂

Jahn was born in Texas to an Ecuadorian mother and Chinese father, frequently creating artworks that remix cultural icons to destabilize fixed ideas. “TIPSY” is a site-specific installation that explores the role of art and “spirits” (drinks made from distilled and fermented plants) in shifting perspective and communing with the divine or with others.

Hear from Jahn about her inspiration for "TIPSY" at our FREE Artist Talk on June 9 at 6 p.m. Click the link in our bio to register!

NOW OPEN: “Microhistories of the Andes” 🌟

“Microhistories of the Andes” explores topics like Andean cosmologies, cultural conceptions of agricultural practices, objects of devotion and spirituality, and the histories of materials across land and time, by looking closely at objects and thinking about their lives in the worlds in which they were created.

This exhibition includes objects from ancient Peru and Colombia, as well as more recent works from Bolivia and Ecuador, offering a geographically capacious cross-section of the region’s history and landscapes and the Museum’s permanent collection.

On view in the Golden Gallery through May 23, 2027.

Recognize this iconic painting? 🎨 Today, we’re remembering Adan Hernandez and his artistic legacy.

Juanito is one of several dozen paintings that San Antonio artist Adan Hernandez made for the 1993 film Blood In, Blood Out. Hernandez’s paintings for the film are credited with drawing greater attention to the work of Chicano artists at a time when few had received broad recognition.

The Estate of Adan Hernandez preserves and promotes the artistic legacy of Chicano artist Adan
Hernandez, whose works became internationally recognized through their connection to Chicano culture and the iconic film Blood In, Blood Out.

Born in San Antonio, Texas, Hernandez created powerful paintings that reflected identity, community, street culture, spirituality, and the lived experiences of Mexican-American life in the American Southwest.

Over the years, his work found its way into important private collections, cultural institutions, and the visual memory of an entire generation.

Today, The Estate of Adan Hernandez is dedicated to archiving, documenting, and sharing his artistic legacy with collectors, cultural institutions, longtime admirers, and new audiences worldwide.
