We had a great time connecting with the community during Hometown Days in San Carlos this past weekend! Artists Pettina Velez and Lindsay Hogue provided free art activities for kids at our booth, and we gave out countless reminder cards to come visit Art Bias during our monthly First Sundays Open Studios events! The next one is Sunday, June 7th from 12-4pm. Hope to see you there!

Art Bias artist Jennifer Kelley just finished a new mosaic titled "Artichoke Agave" using stained glass. This stunning piece is 16" x16" and was created for a private commission.

Jennifer creates detailed mosaics using vibrantly colored stained glass. Each piece is hand-cut, with colors carefully chosen to emphasize light and shadows, giving depth to the compositions.

Come by to see Jennifer's work and meet her in person at Art Bias this weekend during Silicon Valley Open Studios from 11:00 - 5:00 on Saturday and Sunday, May 9 and 10. And go to https://www.jenniferkelleymosaics.com/ to learn more about Jennifer's artistic practice!

The photograph of "Artichoke Agave" was taken by Mark Serr Photography.

On Sundays throughout April, Art Bias artist Megan Afansev led free Art Explorer Club classes for youth age 7-10, generously sponsored by Dragonfly Community Arts.

The students dove right in to creating still life flower drawings, basket weaving with yarn and paper bowls, mixed media abstract art, floating chalk prints & card making.

Dragonfly Community Arts funds new educational art opportunities and help expand already existing art programs to offer free art education by artists in an effort to ensure future success for underrepresented voices. Learn more about Megan at https://www.habitatartstudio.com/

Amber Smith taught a multi-step, creative project where One Step Beyond students hand-built an owl or a cat sculpture using white stoneware clay using the coil technique.

Participants learned basic hand-building techniques to shape and add details to their owl or cat. The pieces were transported in Amber's car to One Step Beyond's kiln where they were fired, then brought back to Art Bias where each was painted by its creator, adding color and personality.

The final results are a dazzling and whimsical display bursing with personality!

Thank you to Dragonfly Community Arts for making these classes possible, and thank you to One Step Beyond, Amber Smith and all the individual artists who worked so hard!

To prepare for Silicon Valley Open Studios in just less than 2 weeks, Art Bias artist Amy Rattner is taking a short break from creating her iconic wildlife paintings and enjoying some experiments.

Amy says, "I am trying to give myself more time to play and experiment with new materials and ideas. It definitely helps to jumpstart my creativity and inspiration. I have been wanting to create some small abstract mixed media pieces and this week I finally gave myself the time and space to play and this little series is what emerged."

These little 8" x10” pieces will be available in Amy's studio, #212, on May 9 and 10. And follow along Amy's creative journey to watch if/how these experimental artworks impact her wildlife paintings.
