Tonight, San Salvador isn’t just part of San Diego’s waterfront. She’s part of the show. With a sold-out crowd at The Rady Shell for Pirates of the Caribbean, we get to fire the cannon, raise a little pirate spirit, and create the kind of San Diego memory people will talk about long after the final note.

Our beautiful San Salvador on the gorgeous Waters of San Diego Bay, ready to explode with fun at the Rady‘s Shell - showing Pirates of the Caribbean with a Live Orchestra. What an amazing Friday night! It’s absolutely sold out and this is going to be a memory to enjoy for a very long time.

“Very informative and very inclusive in its maritime history…”

There is a lot more history floating along the San Diego waterfront than you might expect.

Our collection tells maritime stories through historic vessels, exhibits, artifacts, and the people whose lives were connected to the sea.

We especially love hearing from guests who arrived curious and left pleasantly surprised.

Come aboard and see what you discover.

Something is brewing on the San Diego waterfront…

The Maritime Museum of San Diego joined forces with The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park, the San Diego Symphony and San Diego Pirate Adventures for a little swashbuckling fun aboard the San Salvador.

Our crews welcomed some unexpected pirates aboard, and let’s just say… they looked right at home. ⚔️🏴‍☠️

San Salvador, the Maritime Museum’s full-size reconstruction of Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo’s 16th-century galleon. Today, her decks became part of the pirate action as our visitors got a glimpse of what happens when San Diego’s maritime history collides with a little Hollywood adventure.

This Friday, the San Diego Symphony brings the world of Pirates of the Caribbean to life with the film projected on the big screen while the thrilling score is performed live to picture.

But the pirate fun doesn’t end when the final note is played…

🏴‍☠️ September is Pirate Month at the Maritime Museum of San Diego!

Keep your spyglass pointed toward the waterfront because pirates, special activities and plenty of seafaring surprises are headed our way aboard the historic ships of the Maritime Museum.

The ships are real. The history is real. The pirates? You’ll have to come aboard and find out.

⚓️ This is your waterfront.
🏴‍☠️ Come aboard.

One stage. One big idea about the future of our ocean - Joy!

On August 27, Dr. Christina Connett Brophy, President & CEO of the Maritime Museum of San Diego, takes the TEDxSanDiego stage to share:

Maritime Museums Can Save the Ocean!

Historic ships carry more than stories of where we have been. They can become places where people discover where we need to go next.

Through education, storytelling, human connection, and living maritime history, Christina will challenge us to think differently about the role museums can play in creating a healthier future for our oceans.

Experience her TEDx talk live alongside an inspiring evening of ideas centered around this year’s theme of JOY.

For Dr. Christina Connett Brophy, the connection to the sea began long before she became President & CEO of the Maritime Museum of San Diego.

It began in childhood.

Her experiences at sea helped shape a belief that remains at the heart of her work today: when people understand their connection to the ocean, they are far more likely to care about its future.

On August 27, Christina brings that deeply personal perspective to the TEDxSanDiego stage with:

Maritime Museums Can Save the Ocean!

Through ships, stories, education, and shared experiences, maritime museums have the power to connect generations and inspire people to become stewards of our oceans.

We hope you’ll be there to hear her story.
