Visit the University Art Gallery to check out all the diverse work in “Staying Power,” which includes work by current School of Art & Design faculty, Irén Tété.
Irén Tété is a sculptor focused on ceramics, architecture, and language, exploring perception, thought, and spatial navigation by blending industrial and organic elements. She expresses her poetic fragments through ceramics, creating tiles embedded with words constructed from spikes—this uneasy typography reflects boundaries and logical tangles. Her ongoing project examines how language extends the body and mind, influencing space and meaning. SDSU’s support as well as its legacy of care, for materials, ideas, and community, remains central to her involvement as it continues to shape the future of craft. (Text by Barbara Paris Gifford, Senior Curator at the Museum of Arts and Design, New York).
Presented by Craft in America, Handwork 2026 celebrates the diversity of the crafts that define America, bringing compelling stories and underrepresented art and artists into the spotlight.
