"We shall overcome because the arc of the moral universe is long but it bends toward justice."

Today's verdict can't bring George Floyd back, but it's a start.

A year ago this week Helena Faitelson was finishing up her beautiful Let Equality Bloom mural here at the Mint House!

Helena is a mother of five and her personal experiences with maternity leave (and a lack of paternity leave) made her submission for this Gender Equality themed mural especially relevant.

"Gender equality, to me, means equal opportunities for men and women to maintain a balance between their professional and personal life and equal responsibilities for men and women to take care of a family.

I believe that gender equality has still not happened, but when it does it will look like a field of blooming flowers that will make our world colorful and beautiful."

We really do have a beautiful community in Barrio Logan! A very special shout out to Malane from MishMash for helping us repair this mural. She is a fantastic human who helps create fantastic food. 🤤

With the election process still ongoing we know things are stressful right now. As always, we stand with our community and hope the results of this election will create a better world for all of us.

With the election tomorrow and so much at stake we are angry, sad, and incredibly disappointed that someone would choose to cover the dying words of (too many) Black men.

The worst part is that this isn't the first graffiti tag we've had to deal with on this particular mural (but it is by far the most destructive). To disrespect a movement dedicated to protecting Black people's lives is disgusting.

A year ago today we started the process of prepping the Mint House's first social justice themed mural! In the coming weeks Yvette Roman Bañuelos would bring her La Linea mural about immigration to life!
