The Amalienbad is named after Amalie Pölzer (1871-1924). A member of the Social Democratic Party, she was the first woman elected to the municipal council of Vienna in 1919.

She and her party advocated for public baths since at the time few Viennese residents had their own bathrooms.

Designed by Karl Schmalhofer and Otto Nadel and completed in 1926, its stunning Art Déco interior is a surprising contrast to the stark exterior. It posted the largest pool in Europe and a retractable glass roof. The ladder was, unfortunately not retained after an extensive renovation to repair the damages of Second World War.

Today revel in its splendor seven days a week - a haven of multiple pools, saunas, a spa, and a delectable restaurant.

Different periods and styles always live harmoniously side by side in our design gallery. Most believe that the “Series B” designed by Josef Hoffmann in 1912 is Art Déco when they first see the collection and are surprised when they learn that they were actually designed 13 years prior to the Exposition internationale des arts décoratifs et industriels modernes in Paris in 1925 which started the Art Déco movement. Made from hand enameled mouth-blown glass continues to produce this iconic collection in lead free glass, and we are delighted the carry them at our gallery. We truly believe that the right vessel elevates the experience of any beverage! ✨ 🍸 ✨
