Thank you IDEO for inviting Craft Labs to your Wunderfaire. As our first "mobile" event, I couldn't ask for more. I had an amazing time teaching paper beadmaking, meeting everyone, and eating way too many delicious truffles.

Kudos to all the knitters that donated their work to Afganistan to keep people warm this winter. Here is a story, of the lengths that people had to go to to get these items to folks.

"NGO Help the Afghan Children's founder Suraya Sadeed just informed us that they distributed our wool gifts that were shipped overseas in September 2011 by the Mennonite Central Committee.

Here's the timeline -- unfortunately, the container did not get to Kabul in time for distribution last winter because the supply route from Pakistan to Afghanistan shut down in November 2011. This happened because of political troubles between NATO forces and Pakistan over the drones. The freight agencies diligently followed the container. Our cartons of wool gifts stalled in the port of Karachi for several months. At the end of March 2012, special permission
from customs allowed our cargo to start moving from Karachi to Kabul, and the delivery arrived in April. By April, the weather was turning warm, and, therefore, Help the Afghan Children wisely stored the wool blankets and garments for distribution this winter."

For all you craft lovers PBS has a great series called Crossroads - Craft in America. Last night I watched the episode on Community. Great stories about Penland, Pilchuck, and other great craft communities. I can't wait to watch the rest of the series.
