A look inside the second level of Hikari: this space features a glass furnace—borrowed from our friends at Public Glass—and all of Momo’s essential tools for shaping and forming her pieces.

We wanted to create more than just a viewing experience. Downstairs offers a behind-the-scenes look at the process, giving anyone that stops by a real sense of what goes into glass blowing.

This piece called “Dark Side of the Sunrise (Sunset) Over California Dream” is a visual and textual collage about the struggle to see yourself clearly. Kristen Wong uses astrological signs as identifiers, layering them with references to the California landscape as metaphors

“sun / moon but glitter f***s up your whole mental landscape.
Santa Ana winds, PISCES PIECES
RISING. NO PEACE FOR A SAG RISING.
smoke meet mirror , smoke made me see me.
cant stop smoking It. I miss the smoke. Is the

I call and I call and I call, sit on the hill, you miss me still.
We become blocked and locked in our jails. The sun is our mood.
You lit up the sky, and now everything is atomic green.

Did you know one of the first Darumas Momoko made was actually on Season 1 Episode 1 of Netflix Original Series, Blown Away? She’s been breaking the mold of traditional glass art both in form and in representation ever since. This exhibition showcases a 5 year retrospective of her giving new life to traditional Japanese symbols by forging glass and offering softness, sparkles, and a feminine presence.
