Make Hang Gallery

Make Hang Gallery Make Hang Gallery Make Hang Gallery (opened June 18, 2011), and closed in June 2015, was located in the historic North Beach neighborhood of San Francisco.

Make Hnag embraced Bay Area emerging makers of art objects. The founders, Aline Dargie and Alan Robin, addded a fresh and progressive voice to the San Francisco art scene. Make Hang was a unique space where 3 dimensional, tactile, art is made and can be explored. Our artists used form to create personal experiences through sight, touch, smell and taste. A special emphasis was placed upon artists w

ho use ecological processes and upcycled, unexpected materials in their work. Our diverse community could come to create as well as enjoy, learn and add to their collections. The building got sold, Make Hand closed & the owners went sailing :)

Do you love vegetables and textiles? Lets learn more about both and make some art!

Which workshop topics interest you most? 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5?

Aline Dargie teaches private and group lessons in all of these topics and we are trying to decide which ones to offer up next at Make Hang.

1) Lacto ferment vegetables to culture edible probiotic potions and concentrated natural fabric dyes and paint.

2) Solar dye silk in jars with anaerobic kitchen compost.

3) Discover the mad science behind naturally dyeing silk with vegetables.

4) Fold found flowers and fallen leaves in silk, transfer their colors into cloth using steam.

5) Bicycle Shibori: bind, clamp, fold and sculpturally knot up silk using upcycled bicycle parts to resist dye.

&&& If you are interested in scheduling a group or private workshop in any of these topics, let me know and we will make it hang! Rates start at $90 per person, for 3 or more people, for a 3 hour workshop, materials included.
