What does a better world look like? For painter Nengi Omuku, it looks like lush forests, tranquil gardens, and people given the space to simply be.

In her first US solo museum exhibition, the Nigerian artist paints dream-like scenes on sanyan, a handwoven Yoruba ceremonial textile, placing her figures in environments of healing and possibility.

“The Gathering” pairs her work with sculptures and textiles from our arts of Africa collection, weaving together themes of ancestry, nature, and community across time.

Did you know Claude Monet almost abandoned his famous water-lily paintings?

In 1908, at age 68, Monet felt stuck. Then he took his first and only trip to Venice. The visit reinspired him, and he painted the city’s shimmering light in the works on view in “Monet and Venice.” He also resumed work on his “Water Lilies” — now some of the most celebrated works of modern art.
