Hi y'all, We are taking submissions for our next gallery exhibition, set to open Saturday March 21, from 2-6 PM.⁣
⁣
Called 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, this next show will be a different format than usual, as it will be 100% artist-curated.⁣
⁣
We're asking each artist to supply between 5-10 photos of individual pieces of potential art submissions (all mediums accepted), to be sent in by February 23.⁣
⁣
We will then put the artists' names in a hat and pull them randomly to make a chain of names. Each artist will then select 2 pieces of art from the artist in front of them in the chain, after looking at the 5-10 images submitted. ⁣
⁣
This will happen over email, or in person, whichever is most convenient. ⁣
⁣
So in other words, you, as an artist, will select 2 pieces of art from someone else, and someone else will select your work that will go in the show.⁣
⁣
The artwork can loosely or tightly fit the theme of "Chain Reaction".⁣
⁣

Join us this Saturday – 12/6 – From 2 to 6 PM for an art opening reception for our winter show, called "Home is Where the Art is," featuring a smorgasbord of artwork, of various media, from the residents of TODCO buildings. ⁣
⁣
TODCO has 4 SRO and 4 senior buildings, and many residents, who create art individually or part of communal programmed activities. ⁣
⁣
For our final show this year we wanted to honor all the in-house residents who have helped us our, participated in our workshops, and helped create a warm and inviting community here on the corner of 6th and Mission.⁣
⁣

Come out this Thursday 10/30 – 4 to 7PM – for a free meal and art workshop! ⁣
⁣
𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐭 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐜𝐡 – of Vanguard Workshop – will be showing an archive of protest artwork and discussing the history and tradition of activist signage, and then we will hang out and make our own!

Last Thursday (10/16), 6M & Vanguard Labs had the honor of hosting San Francisco Poet Laureate Tongo Eisen-Martin for a poetry writing workshop! It was a magical evening of language and love and as always, some delicious food. ♡

Thursdays’ menu included coconut chicken, a chopped salad, homemade bread, and a strawberry lemon curd cake all made by the ever-talented Britt Creech.

A huge thank you to Tongo () for being in community with us and pushing us to spread our free associative poetry wings!

Check out Tongo’s newly released spoken word poetry album Traveling Shoes, created in collaboration with Vadia and Damani Rhodes. After 7 years in production, the album is now up for a greatly deserved Grammy consideration.

We’ll be back this Thursday from 4-7 for the next workshop in our Vanguard series ⚡️ see you there!

We will have tamales, drinks, live music and amazing art on display by SF artist emeritus Michael Rios!

Show will go on for about 6 weeks, so swing on in this fall if you can’t make the opening.

Next Saturday– 𝟗/𝟐𝟕, 𝟐𝐏𝐌 𝐭𝐨 𝟔𝐏𝐌 – We have an opening reception for a solo show called the 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝, featuring the vibrant, synesthetic, psychedelic work of 𝐌𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐞𝐥 𝐑𝐢𝐨𝐬, a longtime artist emeritus of San Francisco!⁣⁣
⁣
From helping kickstart the Mission mural movement in the 70s, to making album cover cart for Carlos Santana, to Fillmore posters and grandiose tapestries, Michael Rios has been a monumental talent stationed at the intersection of music and visual art. As someone who experiences synesthesia, Michael's sense of color is triggered by sound, a condition tangibly felt in his saturated canvases, posters and fabrics.⁣⁣

Come check out his work, enjoy some live music, have a glass of wine and a tamale!⁣⁣

As an artist in residence for TODCO (the housing nonprofit that funds 6M Arts), he has produced work showcasing life and culture in the South of Market communities, restored murals, and created art installations at Alice Street Gardens, a community garden for residents of the neighborhood. ⁣⁣

We are very proud to feature him for our first solo show at 6M!⁣⁣
⁣⁣

Big thanks to Amanda Kanter ( ) and Vanguard Lab - and Ivy Jean) for a great clay tile workshop and dinner yesterday!

The food was amazing and we’re always lucky to have so many wonderful participants!

Next week we will be attending the art auction at Somarts, so no Vanguard Workshop, but we will be back the following week!
